You have a valid concern. However this game is not set up to be played the way you wish. There are other games out there and coming down the pipe that will support that style of play. I recommend you look into them.A recurring issue I have had is that features such as storyline, levequests, and even access to the marketplace have been so far unavailable to me because I avoid the game's combat classes due to my unreliable internet connection and my preference to gather and craft within an online game.
Should I be forced to change how I play a game to progress within it, the game itself ceases to be fun. I like the game to be a social experience and have nothing to do with mindless, left-brained combat grinding. I prefer to think with my right-brain, gather materials, and create things for other players to enjoy. Why should the game treat me so differently for not enjoying the combat system?

Wow, this lateralization of brain functions is absolutely hilarious. They really made this thread. Brain don't work that way - it's not only two sided, but also a collaboration of multiple parts that process different things. Both sides and all those parts work together. It's a bit simplistic to accuse people of being 'left-brained' or 'right-brained' like there was something wrong with their brain or thoughts. This way of thinking might even be self-fulfilling and distort the view about other people.
Anyways. Back to the topic. I do think that crafting and gathering classes should have more impact on the story! They should also be more rewarding for that matter. I think it's not enough that we can craft some lameass gear and meld them, literally burning hundreds of thousands of gil going for quintuple melds. Because let's face it... no one is going to farm all that materia. ^^'
Then again I don't want crafters to skim through too easily. And now crafting is probably the easiest thing in the game. It takes no effort to level and once you max a couple of professions you get to HQ two-star items without effort. So what I would suggest is - since crafting and gathering classes have to level a battle class, a battle classes should also have to do that crafting and/or gathering based content to clear the story. Equality for the win!
Also please think with both sides of your brain from now on. ;p
This is the type of comment I was waiting to hear from someone knowledgeable about the brain. I know a little about how the brain works but not well enough I have it memorized.Wow, this lateralization of brain functions is absolutely hilarious. They really made this thread. A good example I heard in a class that explains how the brain works together was a question. If you were to remove half of your brain would you rather have the left side removed or the right side?
You don't want either side removed because you would die.

Why is the wait time 30-40 min for a dps for Dutys? some of these you have to do for youe quest line, is there no cross server?

There is cross server but it is within server groups.
Hopefully these wait times will be much shorter after the changes we are getting on Tuesday.
Too bad this thread died, it was entertaining.

man, that's such a bad response, look I like this game, I learned to read playing ff1 (seriously I was 5 trying to play it) I was there for everquest 1, ff14 is like two great tastes that taste great together, its 2013, this game should be PvE focused, and crafting focused and gathering focused, the more variety the better, the more it retains players, the more world like and immersive it feels, not a big pvper but if some focus is put into it, it can greatly enhance a games fun and longevity. As for the OP not sure how to make it quite so focused on crafting like your asking, I hear ya, I just don't know how they could really allow you to. I don't understand not wanting multiple spheres of play well developed tho, I mean don't we all want this game to do well long term, .
It is cross-server but you're only matched up with like 5 or 6 other servers. Problem is there're plenty of people being DPS so you are just as replacable as the next DPS. All you're waiting on is a tank and a healer. Also, since you're late to the game, most people have leveled to 50 and only leveling alt class by FATE so that explains the long queue. Nothing SE can do about it. Random duty finder might alleviate this problem or make it worse when lv50 queue up for a low level dungeons raging at new people for being slow or not knowing better. That is only the minority of 50 however.
I think the OP is a troll.
