I agree. Crafting needs a buff in future patches. As of now you either break even or rarely sell something since consumers can easily get them via merchants and especially during dungeons, FC or GCs. Heck, I never bought gear for my WHM till about lv. 40 and most of them were quickly replaced by dungeon loot or quests.
I only buy HQ stuff for botany. no matter what I'll make a profit gathering mats. May be time consuming, but definitely easier than crafting.
The only benefits to craftingnis being able to , meld materia
They seem to be trying to implement a tiered progression system for crafting, much like they have with the combat-focused content.
> Level to 50.
> Use gil or own skill to acquire basic crafting gear.
> Use this gear to craft better gear or craft stuff you can sell to get more gil.
> Repeat til you have the best gear for that class.
> Repeat til you are able to 5x meld via SB equipment.
> Profit!
The entire system makes more sense if you consider gil to be the endgame goal, similar to Eve Online (which is technically a game focusing on ISK and influence/territory, but close enough).
They said the reason they do not want Crafting to craft the best gears in the game and up to iLevel 90 Gears to is combat the RMT. It make sense, can you imagine the profits and the insane price of the gears will be if Crafter make iLv90 Gears? Many will buy gold for this crafting gears, and RMT will soon control the whole Market. It's very bad.
Personally, I leveled my craft and gathering just to kill time.
You crafts, and in future you and your merry friends will craft houses, ship, cakes and more
To make money on lazy players who would rather spend gil than challenge content.
That is the point.
So most of the responses do seem to be backing up my original points.
Crafting is only useful to make food to raid with, and I agree with that. Which means that botany, fishing, and culinarian are currently the only useful/worthwhile DoL/DoH classes to pursue, which also gets back to the only useful thing to spend gil on, is food, although I reckon you'd be hard pressed to not be earning enough through dungeon grinding to not be able to afford food for raids anyway.
Oh, and Carpentry, if NO ONE else in your FC is a high level carpenter, for housing.
Sadly, this is something that's only going to get worse (ignoring furniture). Right now the iLv70 gear is OK because people are working towards iLv90, but what about future updates? They'll add iLv90 crafted gear, but most people (most people who'd actually buy it) aren't going to need that at all... They'll already have iLv90 and be working on iLv100...
Hopefully they start taking some ideas from XI and give crafts several things to make which can be used to obtain the best gear; Cursed gear and Hakutaku Eye Clusters come to mind. One has crafters making the best gear, but to equip the gear players need to obtain an Abjuration specific to the gear from endgame, the other has people gathering items (not from endgame, but easily could be) to craft into an item which spawns a monster which drops gear. Heck, the current Relic quest worked nicely because of this kind of design... Just a shame they made the weapons ridiculously easy to make, and to add insult to injury, decided to give the weapons three slots so even the melds are ridiculously easy...
