    Holy: light-aspected or unaspected?

    The subject title pretty much gives my question, but I just got my white mage to 50 last night, and it's something I've been wondering since I first saw the spell ages ago.

    Is Holy light-aspected or unaspected magical damage? Given everything the game tries to tell us about the elemental affinities present in the world I wouldn't think that light-aspected damage exists at all, but on the other hand, it wouldn't be the first time Holy was of a rare elemental type in a FF game either.

    Would there even be any particular way to test this out?

    I'm pretty sure that 'light-aspected' doesn't exist in the game currently.

    'aspected' damage doesn't exist. It all counts as 'magic' damage currently. There is no fire, there is no earth, there is just magic.

    This is correct. While tooltips state something is aspected or unaspected, it's a base magic damage formula at play currently, as they removed the elemental wheel upon reboot.

    If it WERE aspected, in 1.0 the light-aspected spells were a combination of fire, water, and wind, while dark-aspected spells were a combination of earth, water, and ice, as I recall. That said, the only time aspect of a spell matters is fire/ice for THM/BLM.

    It's quite likely that spells still retain their aspects, but we can't test them currently due to all monsters having equal elemental resistances. This may turn out to be important once PVP is released, however.

    Technically there is at least some semblance of 'light' and 'darkness' aspects in FFXIV's lore, in the form of astral and umbral elements, however, as has been stated, actual elemental aspects on spells and abilities have been removed (or at least minimized as to be practically imperceptible). Whether SE will eventually restore the elemental wheel to the game is anyone's guess though (I'd personally like to see it return, but I understand why they removed it though).

    The "elemental glow" for Holy is the same as unaspected spells (like Ruin and Shadow Flare) so I'd say it's unaspected for all practical purposes.

    Incidentally,
    Wind = all Cure, Medica, and Physick/Succor/Adlo spells
    Water = Esuna, Leeches
    Earth = Stoneskin, Protect

    Add to Water: Raise, Embrace.
    Resurrection is oddly a Wind element.
