Jumping is never absolutely necessary in TTD as far as I'm aware. It's funny though, how quickly all the jump haters faded away as soon as the game came out.
Yeah, I was thinking of the exact same thing when I saw the trailer. Use the gaols to survive the AOE knockout.
It's not false - He stated it when people brought up jumping to avoid AoEs. The fact you don't get hit means your position is updating properly and on time - As in you're not trying to jump out of the circle last second which is what Yoshida was talking about. Not the Drg jump as you can still do it and get out in time, Spacebar jump as an evasion mechanism.Where has he said this? Are you sure you aren't talking about DRG jumps?
I jump (spacebar) out of AoEs *all* the time and I never get hit because of it. I keep hearing people say "your position isn't updated until you land" but I'm pretty sure this is false.
Unless we're talking about DRG jump, in which case this is correct.

It's in Toto-rak that you have to jump to procceed.
No, I just think it's bad enough as it is with all the interrupt and red line mechanics. We need less of it, not more.

It sounds like you want every fight to be sword/board tank 'n spank... which (to me), is a -boring- fight. As much as i dislike how much they seemingly depend on AoE, removing interrupts and AoE mechanics would make this game a bore to play.

The more likely way to avoid the stomp that knocks people off the edge is to line of sight the stomp with the 2 people he puts in Gaols at the same time he does the stomp.

I can't post a source (way too lazy to find it), but I do recall the dev team specifically saying jumping would not be involved in any really important mechanics (such as avoiding things, etc). The lack of programming behind this (the fact that your position won't update until you land) shows that the dev team does not want jumping to be an important part of fights. Maybe this will change with upcoming patches... who knows, but I would highly doubt it. I do not recommend jumping in boss fights because of the lack of positioning updates -- jump only when it's necessary (such as switching platforms on Caduceus).
I will note that the dev team specifically announced that some of the positioning issues (such as your position only updating every .3 seconds) will be addressed, but only in 'important' encounters.
The reason you see the 'sample' party acting silly and not at all organized in the promo video is because they want to show the content without giving ANY strategy away. That's why you don't see anyone attacking the adds, or hardly dodging things. In the Ifrit (Extreme) portion, you see the tank run into literally every single dash.. lol "Here's how NOT to do the fight."

Sadly I am...
My job there is just filling bars and getting out of lasers though. Not as bad as Titan.
I want more fights like Garuda. I have fun doing all roles there. You don't need to rely on AoE or interrupts to make it a challenge.
Also, Caduceus was fun. Getting out/in of platforms is easier enough, but something to watch out for.
