The Secret World had a similar system to this... Well, actually, all the gear was technically accessories: talisman, bracelet, necklace, etc. and the hat, chest, legs, boots, etc. were purely cosmetic and had no stats.I actually like the system Chronicles of Spellborn had gear-wise. Stats weren't associated with the gear, all gear was purely cosmetic. What was important was the sigils you put in the gear. The sigils could be removed and reslotted into other pieces, in case you found different armor you liked better.

Lost it at "Brayflonx Longstep"...

Yeah, I liked that one too. I don't know how many hours I spent in the stores. My mission was to buy all the clothes... and then I'd hit random things to equip and we'd run a dungeon... if we got through it okay then that was the "lucky" outfit, no matter how silly looking.

TCOS had it perfect. All armor was aesthetic. Rune slots determined the
Power / IL. Thats the perfect system cause you can wear ANYTHING that
suits your individual taste. Wish ALL games would adopt that..
There have already been variations of this. Most recently the modable gear in SWTOR and the talisman system in TSW from what I've played. I like the idea of separating appearance from stats. It gives a more visually varied player-base, while still maintaining a drive for improved stats. There's just something too children-of-the-corn-ish about seeing a zone full of people in identical gear...

i wouldnt mind this. interesting concept

that would only work if all the gear in the game was craftable, like SWG then equipment has a perma degradation every time you repair the equipment it got a lower max like 100% repaired gets repaired then 99% is the new max till it cant be repaired and breaks.
it takes too much time just to get one piece of DL and even more for the AF2 for this to be a good thing.
Is it just me or do people in this game really love spamming the word "archaic"?

Doing something the same way it's been done since 1999, yeah I call that archaic.

Preeeeetty sure gear with stats is the way it's been done since Dungeons & Dragons.
Because it's a staple of the genre.
...I guess we don't really need a first person view in FPS, though. I mean, that's pretty archaic.
