I would challenge anyone to name, in three words or less, an MMO better than this one. Then I would proceed to ask why they're not over there instead.

In my opinion, if some people hate the amount of content in this game so much and continue paying for it and playing it, then fools and their money are soon parted. But thanks for funding the game so that casual players like myself can have fun all week!

At the end of the day, this remains a motivation issue. These "Monday people" have no motivation to play the game outside of Coil and capping myths. Basically, that is their only goal when logging in to play the game.

I stress again that people should go and find other goals within the game to keep themselves occupied and content. Just like in real life, you won't want to do something that you are not motivated to do yourself. Set yourself a goal, no matter how miniscule, and progress step by step. For example:

    - I want to level and play a Warrior.
    - I want to level and play a Dragoon.
    - I want to get a fully levelled Weaver.
    - I want to start and level Carpenter.
    - I want to hit 1.5 million gil in the bank.
    - I want to craft my own 2-star HQ equipment.
    - I want to gather my own materials to make my own 2-star HQ equipment.
    - I want to collect a full Battlemage set from Brayflox
    - I want to collect a full Cavalry set from Brayflox
    - I want to collect a full Infantry set from Brayflox

It's coming up with goals like these, and taking them a step at a time, that keeps the game fun for me. Once again, these are my goals and motivations, they will not necessarily reflect the same for other players. But the point here is to come up with your own in-game goals. Do not restrict yourself to only content that you see ahead of you. I am an achievements sort of person, so I will try to get whatever achievement I can. I set my own goals, and when I achieve it, I am happy.

Someone on Reddit mentioned trying to start a new character, and going self-sustainable to see how long you will last. What this means is, you level all your classes as you do, but when it comes to crafting/buying gear/materia, etc. try and do it yourself. Eg. Your new character has just hit Level 50 on a Paladin - instead of buying the relic weapon and materia off the marketboard, go and level a Blacksmith. While levelling your Blacksmith, if you need materials from other classes (ie. lumber from Carpenter, oil from Alchemist), go and level those classes to be able to craft those instead. To craft your lumber, go and gather your own logs via levelling a botanist. Maybe this is too time consuming for you, but if you have nothing else to do, why not try it. A lot of people just reject "content", whether actual, or artifically generated, on grounds that they may not enjoy it, but how will you know you won't enjoy it if you don't even try it? I once rejected the idea of being a healer, because I thought it would be boring to be a passive character staying at the back and healing, but my WHM is now level 38 and I am actually having fun playing as a healer in dungeons.

Creativity is a key component that many people seem to lack these days. A lot of people follow the standard rat race to 50, doing the same thing everyone does, then complaining about the same thing everyone else complains about. Try breaking out of the mold, and being different.

    .
    So basically

    Fate Zerging
    Crafting repeatables
    Make money
    and
    Vanity gear.

    This game truly lacks variety.

NO XIV is making all new mistakes and didnt learn anything from 1.0 but could have learned something from XI.

That's not really being fair. They're making some silly mistakes, but it remains to be seen if the way they're releasing CT is one of them.

So... what exactly do other games offer that isn't fluff (Pet battles/Grinding/Farming) or PvP (which they're adding, and remains to be seen to what extent they'll finalize it) again?

the worst thing is that most people who do nothing but doing coil and capping tomes are probably not even having fun doing coil. they do it purely to have the best gear available. there is literally nothing else to do for them after that, and yet they feel obliged to do it for some reason.

granted that's nothing new at all, but in my 10+ years of playing MMOs - even during my hardcore progression raiding days - I never understood this mentality. if progression raiding was really all I found to be entertaining, I'd no doubt wouldn't even be playing MMOs, at least not not subscription-based ones. (because I'd just be hopping back and forth between games every time they released new raid content)

Dunno, thinking this game shouldn't be the same as every other game.
Just because other MMO'd didn't release a lot outta the box
    doesn't mean this one should.
    Waiting for 2.2.
    Game does lack variety, badly...

My Warrior has just enough gear to start Coil, but need more myth gear to even make it. My FC also wants me to gear out my scholar to help when we lack healing.

My goal was to use myth to gear out Warrior and CT to gear out scholar. This artificial lockout for CT makes it impossible for me to have Scholar geared out in time to be of any use to my FC in COIL. I'll have to prioritize Warrior for the next 2 months. Then spend the next 2 months trying to gear out scholar.

If this was any other mmo, I would have 2 characters. As soon as Warrior was raid/dungeon capped for teh week, I would log off and onto my scholar and proceed to do the same. Parrallel progression, options, variety, FUN!

Now, FFXIV says, the BEST part of our game is that you "DONT NEED TO ROLL OTHER CHARACTERS. YOU CAN BE ALL CLASSES/JOBS on ONE CHARACTER!"

    Really now..................

SE, you have artificially capped my ability to play other jobs. One job will always be behind the other, let's not even start with people who have 3 of 4 50s. What was once the best part of the game (multiple jobs) is the worst part based on the mechanic.

Had I known, I would have leveled separate classes. Healer, Tank, and one DPS.

also my point isnt to say EQ2 was perfect or even better really, thats subjective. My point is to point out that this game is on par with decade old MMOs, and the genre does not seem to be moving forward at all. thats really my point, all these games are the same $%^% over and over.
