Once again, they are NOT doing the Final Fantasy Tactics thing, guys.
Once again, they are NOT doing the Final Fantasy Tactics thing, guys.
Please also remember this from Matsui-san's battle reform blueprint:
The class roles are being reworked, actions are going to be re-assigned to different classes (in some cases). So, the interaction between class and job is going to be hard to imagine, since we don't have a clear picture of what the classes themselves are going to be.Classes
Actions will undergo major revisions, along with both the underlying mechanics and conditions.
By major revisions, not only do we mean the tweaking of effects and potency of existing actions - we will work from the ground up to redesign and reassign actions based on clearly identified class roles.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
^ Exactly.
If anything ever opens up the Red Mage line in the standing Armory system, it 'must' be the Gladiator. Unless of course we do see those further Classes, such as Fencer, which could also be Red Mage.
Basically: no sword, no shield, no Red Mage. (Though two swords would work too!)

I Still wanna know where you guys get this info that RDM are melee classes when it never has been. The sword is usually just there for aesthetic reasons and nothing more. RDM have always been more mage than melee they usually get abilities like DBL cast and other magic stuff.
After looking at all my old Ff game with RDM in them always leaned towards magic and it usually has the same str as an WHM but i guess next your gonna say WHM was a good melee to then.![]()
The sword and shield for Red Mage isn't just aesthetic, but if they had meant for RDM to have an emphasis on melee, then they probably would have called it a Magic Knight or something, instead of a MAGE. The sword is meant as a fallback.
they are supposed to be whm/blm/melee hybrids.

Redmages are iconic of the "Duelist" they are meant to be both melee and magic they have always been that way. They were Final Fantasy's First generation Hybrid. Ninja, and Knight were string 2.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
