It never was needed because afk users are a miniscule fraction of the logged in population- It was slightly inflated the first few weeks for how hard it was to log on, but after the log in issues were resolved (and the feature was implemented after the problem HAD ALREADY GONE AWAY)
The queues will not even appear more often much less be worse. This feature is unnecessary, period. Anyone who is insistent about staying logged on can already circumvent the feature, proving that it is pointless to have in the first place.
yes, there is a simple way to avoid it, that's why it's pointless and doesn't need to be there in the first place. Why should we have to circumvent it? Since people are doing that and the servers haven't exploded, it should be obvious that this feature isn't necessary.Hmm, just curious, but do you people doing the complaining know there is a rather simple way to avoid the auto-logout?
I do it all the time when I know I'm gonna be afk for an extended period of time but still want to keep my game up.
Could the Developers at the very least make it so that auto-log out will not happen while on queue for the Duty Finder? I'm asking this because (as mentioned in previous posts of mine), the DPS queue window often far exceeds the 30 minutes, and I believe there are several people out there who will tab out to do other stuff while waiting to hear the Duty Finder "ring" to enter a Duty. While we understand that some of you have requested to remove this, we’ve confirmed with the development team that there are no plans to remove the auto-logout feature. As many of you pointed out, regular activity will prevent your character from logging out, so please make the most of your time in-game.
The auto-log out noise is far too weak, and I've tabbed out while waiting on Duty Finder several times now only to check some time later and find out I have been kicked from the game while waiting.
Seriously, with the impossibility to join FATE parties while on queue, it is already detrimental to have to actually sit there and move my character around to make sure it doesn't get disconnected while waiting for the Duty Finder.
I'm personally shocked such feature hasn't yet been implemented, especially if we consider that there aren't even risks of players exploiting this (since, when the queue finally ends and you're asking to confirm and enter the Duty, if you don't click within a minute, the queue is wiped and your On-Queue status is canceled). So please, pretty please?
But wait... So your asking for them to fix it so you don't have to pay attention for more than 30 minutes?
I do have a way of knowing, because it wasn't even needed at the time it was implemented.
AGAIN:
1) the % of idle users overall is extremely small in general.
2) Any user that needs to go AFK and knows there is a timer will circumvent the auto-logout by any of several simple methods: Talking to your retainer, starting a synthesis, or using a keyboard macro.
4) the number of people who need to and the frequency with which they would need to go afk for more than 30 minutes is very small.
3) Because of both of the abuve, the effectivness of the feature is next to nothing and only serves to aggrivate a small number of people while at the same time benefitting absolutely nobody.
5) Virtually all servers are now open for character creation at all times, indicating none of them are anywhere near their population caps, thus demonstrating the lack of need to boot idle players to open up slots on the server, because the servers are not full.
you and the 4 people who liked your post can't seem to see the obvious reasons why this "feature" is not effective and useless. Unless there is a sudden completely unexpected population surge that SE isn't prepared for, the issues it was meant to resolve are unlikely to ever happen again.
Get rid of this feature. It does not need to exist and the problem it is intended to solve no longer exists. Period.
I fail to see the connection between the part of my post you decided to quote and your post, but in short, yes. There is a point in this game where there isn't much else left to do while waiting for the queue. I can't join a FATE party, I'm out of quests to do, I'm out of LEVE allowances, I can't call my chocobo companion. Maybe I'll just tab on another program and do something else while waiting (this isn't even AFKing. I'm still at the keyboard, but I'll get automatically logged off for not being giving any imput to XIV's tab), write something, work, watch a movie. But I'm not going to stress on why I should be forced to stare idly at a screen without anything to do so I don't get booted before my turn. I can sum all this up to one question:
Why would auto log-off not working during Duty Finder queue hurt you?
Haha this brightened up my day
Wouldn't you rather SE allow you to join FATEs and call your chocobo companion while qeueing for DF? Wouldn't you rather SE add more quests or increase the LEVE allowance limit? Play the game to have fun, not just to tab out and do other crap
First world problems, clearly.
I guess I misunderstood. AFK to me means walking away from the game and doing something else, in which case I could very easily miss the df que whether I log off or not. If you are still present at your game and able to respond to what happens, then you aren't truly AFK. Normally when I am in a df que, I use that time to chat. If, I'm watching tv or something, it's no big deal to simply bump the movement control occasionally since I'm not going to walk away while in que. I'm just not sure why the auto logout feature is so hard for some people to deal with? it doesn't cause me a problem at all. It would probably help if they added a popup with a sound that says you are about to be logged off in x seconds. That would at least alert you to respond.I fail to see the connection between the part of my post you decided to quote and your post, but in short, yes.
