These comments are all well and good. It will still come down to cost. Which will be cheaper and easier to do efficiently. Modify the Market Wards to incoporate the changes that people want or develope an AH/Mog House system from scratch while decommishining the Wards. Whichever is cheaper is what will get done.
It should take no longer than a month and two or three individuals to set up a window interface for the already existing market system. Pretty sure that next to doing nothing at all, getting rid of rendered retainers/zones is the cheapest thing.
As much as Wards are a neat idea in theory, I wouldn't be sad to see them go.
In fact I'd be happier to have my Mog House or enhanced equivalent in its place. I'm really sick of trudging through hordes of NPCs to do simple inventory management. Turn retainers into bazaar only NPCs, and give us 200 storage space in our own instanced home. I understand the desire to try new and different things, but I really feel like a stranded person when I'm playing.
what part of what I said "it needs work" did you not read? getting the servers up to snuff is part of the "it needs work" I talked about -.-
That is what is wrong with gamers today..... if something does not work right 100% right off the bat, they scream "take it away it sucks"
Don't bother, I've said the same thing over and over and over again but people in favor of the wards will just skim over the posts with any logic because they know they can't counter them. Or they'll give you a half assed answer as if they haven't read your post....
See lol.what part of what I said "it needs work" did you not read? getting the servers up to snuff is part of the "it needs work" I talked about -.-
Do you really think it's economically feasible to have several (or several dozen) machines to handle the current pointless complexity all for ... trading items? When it can be done with as little as one machine?what part of what I said "it needs work" did you not read? getting the servers up to snuff is part of the "it needs work" I talked about -.-

Do you realize that "getting the servers up to snuff" isn't just slapping more hardware on them? That they'll need to spend more time and money modifying the software in order to make the whole system work seamlessly? That they'll need to spend more time and money on maintaining more machines? That downtime during a crash or maintenance or upgrade would be significantly higher because of this?
Do you realize that it would take a small fraction of that time and money to simply get rid of all the complexity and make it a simple transaction database with the interface and everything being done in the game client?
Probably not.
And for the record, I'm advocating the removal of retainers/zones because I can analyze the system properly, and because I know there will still be limitations and problems with the retainer dungeons regardless of how much work is put into them. Some designs just don't work, bro.
the engine isnt mmo friendly as well, they have to even limit the character shadows a few feet away from you and then the vanish magically... not to mention you dont see people far away if there is a certain number of people already close to you. This was already bad in ffxi, it seems worse here. As long as the system cant render more mobs/npcs/pcs at a time they will have not only MW limitations but also limitations with the whole world design/dungeon design etc. No wonder every crap in this game is instanced already. Its the easy-way out... But its the dead end in the long run.
You're not old school you just don't think. 7 item limit isn't ingrained into an AH. Majority of people who say they want an "AH" most likely mean they want a counter top system rather than stupid zones with zombies standing around doing nothing that provide you with nothing over an AH or a "counter top system" but a time sink.20 items up for sale instead of 7.
I am not ignorant to the hardware of servers, and I know what it takes. I say "it needs work" I say it that way because there are many things that need to be fixed and adjusted, and alot of it has been talked about already.Do you really think it's economically feasible to have several (or several dozen) machines to handle the current pointless complexity all for ... trading items? When it can be done with as little as one machine?

I am not going to go into every detail as to what I think needs to be done, as I dont feel like, nor have the time to waste doing so. Some of you are shooting down the idea before it is even finished, honestly that is pretty stupid and small minded. The Market Wards will work, and in their current state (except for the crashing) is decent. But yes the MW do need much more work, and when they are done properly, they will be just as good as an AH, like "so many" are screaming for......... I say "so many" because hardly a fraction of the player base even comes here, so even the vocal "majority" that want the retainers and MW removed, are no where near the majority of the player base.
