Guess I am 1 of those oldschool players who, after 6 years of dealing with the AHs on FFXI, happen to like the Market wards. I like being able to have 20 items up for sale instead of 7. I do like being able to visit my retainers instead of having to log to mules. Having said that I will also be the first to admit that the wards are in need of major adjustments. Many of the things that people want from an AH can be incorporated into the wards. It should not be too difficult to institute a search and sell system from the menu at the main entrance. Also should not be too difficult to link all 3 cities. The blueprint has been laid out in FFXI. A number of these things were already discussed by the developement team and Yoshi-P. If they are instituted then the only reason for entering the wards is to visit your retainers. SHould help to cut down on the crashes. Only major work that I see that would need to be done is to widen the entrance point to accomidate all the people wishing to make use of the wards. I do not see where this would involve any more developement then creating an AH system from srcatch. Just my hunble opinion. <added> Forgot to mention 1 point. Wether we go to improved Markets Wards or to an AH system will be determined strictly by developement costs. Whichever is chearper on resources will be what you get as long as it fullfills the players needs

Evangela's concerns are well justified and I respect her opinion. I just happen to believe that her remedy is not the best one.

Couldn't they just make the AH have the same 20 item requirement?

...Didn't FFXI have a storage system in your mog house?

It took FFXI over 8 years and a lot of developement to move beyond their initial levels of storage. Even now with the number of high level jobs I have now I need to have mules top cover all my need. I do not see this development team implementing large amounts storage spaces in the near future to cover all my classes/jobs plus all the crafting meterial that I keep on hand. Why do that when you can sell retainers in the future.
As for the amount of items that can be sold at any time SE has claimed that this development was not possible do to developement cost associated with the amount of strain it would put on servers. Wether this applies to FFXIV or not only the developement team can say

20 items up for sale instead of 7.
You're not old school you just don't think. 7 item limit isn't ingrained into an AH. Majority of people who say they want an "AH" most likely mean they want a counter top system rather than stupid zones with zombies standing around doing nothing that provide you with nothing over an AH or a "counter top system" but a time sink.
