Low level market seems to be dead

Well, it was about time I opened a thread with a genuine concern. So here it goes.

I've been leveling my Leatherworker after maybe a month of being stuck in lvl 10 or so, and I'm hitting a bit of a roadblock. This is: crafting is a waste of gil, since I don't get a profit from my crafting. I spend and spend gil on materials but then noone buys my crafted gear. Granted, I'm only making lvl 15 gear, but it's still quite an inversion money-wise, and I've had things on the market go unsold for over a month now. I know it will probably get better later when I'm doing high level HQ gear, but right now crafting feels like I'm just wasting gil. Anyone else feel the same?

I usually just vendor things that I don't HQ at low levels.

It shouldn't cost you too much, though. Pretty much everything you need can be bought off vendors, even though you might have to travel to another city to do so. Costs a lot less than it would buying from the market board.

Leveling a crafting profession right now wouldn't be a good idea if you are in it for the money, it would take a long time to make the money back especially on a populated server.

Maybe in anticipation for the update and furniture it's worth it. I personally haven't leveled a craft for a month.

Not trying to be funny or anything...but it was designed this way...So that crafting doesnt play a major role in the game.
If you read any of the live letters you will see what i mean, its really sad but its all we have.

    I'll second this.

Originally Tanaka had a pretty grand vision for crafting, albeit a poorly implemented one. Its one of the things that initially drew me to FFXIV -- crafters having their own classes on par with their DoW/M counterparts. Yoshi tricked me with 1.0 in that the introduction of materia and some of the other changes made it seem like crafting was going to always be an integral part of the game. Oh how wrong I was >.< 2.0 turned crafting into a sideshow and Yoshi has repeatedly said there are no plans to make it otherwise. Too bad - we finally get a pretty decent crafting system and it goes to waste.

To be honest, one problem is the leveling pace. I'm not going to spend any noticeable amount of gil for gear that will be completely useless in a few hours.

For instance, gear is quite often ready to be replaced before it's even ready to be converted, and usually by a wide difference. Something wrong with that.

Shield Lob (Can change red text to Tomahawk and it will work perfectly Warriors)
    /macroicon "Shield Lob"
    /ac "Shield Lob" <t>
    /marking attack1 <t>

Better "macro switching", give it a read: http://tinyurl.com/ffxivhotbars

If you're trying to make money while you're leveling crafting, sell processed materials instead. People still go nuts for HQ Aldgoat Leather and the like (at least on my server).

Personally, I'm crafting because I actually enjoy it (for some odd reason), and I can then help out my fellow FC members along with whatever they need (except 2-star crafts, I haven't prepared for those yet). Also, it's nice being self-sufficient.

probably not looking for this suggestion.. but do gathering first.. there are a few items on each that will help your crafters.. this how i did it anyway.. you can make gil on crafts but you need to be high leve really in several crafts
