Unique examples =/= 'the white mage' archetype that's known in FF's.

Their equipment includes staves and maces (as well as hammers in the original Final Fantasy), but in later installments they used magical rods instead.

It's fairly clear you don't understand the point of jobs in FFXIV, if you want this. They are not the same as classes.

I would regard this as possibly the only good thing they did with FFXIV's linkshells. (Though considering they didn't do much with them, there's a fairly small pool to draw from)

Pretty much no. There are better ways of dealing with the game than just restoring it to the FFXI default.
