Just switch to the Legacy camera mode and all your problems should disappear. Honestly, give that a try. I switched after playing for a few days and raging at the camera and haven't regretted it. Legacy will also let you run backwards instead of backing up at a slow pace.

Kind of a must to dodge AoEs.
