The entire purpose of the beta 4 pvp test was to give the devs data from which they could determine apprpriate attack ranges and other paramters based on the amount delay/latency/etc experienced. It was not much of an issue for me when I was trying it out in beta 4.

In other words, melee attack ranges will be a little larger to ensure you can hit an opponent who is running and most likely line of sight / angle of attack will be more forgiving than in PvE.

Have you every tried to stun a running mob? That's Reslin's point. Pair that against bards with experience kiting and they'll kite melees so they can't reach them and hop circles around casters, literally. In this combat design, with this latency, bard will be the king. A mage's only chance is sleep nuking if they can land a heavy to stop you from just running back and forth through them.
You will be able to unlock special skills for PvP for various things that don't arise in PvE- e.g. breaking crowd control effects, things that help close the gap with runners, etc.

You forgot that FF14 has a built in macro tool.

If you don't use macro combinations in PvE that's fine but you will in PvP or you will lose.

until they get combat as smooth as... dare i say it? WOW then pvp will fail.. right now delay is a huge factor and in general the way skills/spells work.

    Hello all,

We spoke with the Wolves' Den development lead and wanted to remind you of some of the plans mentioned recently in the Letter from the Producer LIVE X and before during TGS, that will hopefully address some of your concerns regarding PvP.

Players participate in the Wolves' Den via the Duty Finder, so everyone has the option to jump in solo or join with a party of 4 players and match up with anonymous opponents from across servers. This is your opportunity to test your ability and see how you fair against a variety of skilled players. While we're aware some of you don't like the use of an anonymous name like Fresh Meat, the team has decided to go with that for now and don't have any current plans to provide additional options for it.

If you wanna tumble with your friends, the team is currently thinking about keeping this type of friendly competition to the housing districts, though it won't be available for patch 2.1.

There were a few clarifications on PvP mentioned during the Letter from the Producer LIVE at Tokyo Game Show:

Q.I'm worried there will be a disparity in strength between players who are friends fighting in pre-made teams and those who team up randomly using the Duty Finder. How will this be handled?
    A. They will be matched with similar people. Players in pre-made teams will be matched with other pre-made teams, and those who sign up randomly will play with others who choose to join a random match.

    Q. Exactly what will PvP-specific skills entail?
    A. There will be abilities you can use to immediately recover from sleep, bind, or other enfeeblement effects cast on you, and also passive traits that will reduce the duration of sleep effects. We will also expand these skills moving forward, as they can be used during the Front Lines PvP planned for the future.

    Q. Are there any plans for one-on-one matches in the open world?
    A. I understand the desire for an easy way to test your skills against other players, but we'd like to restrict this type of combat to housing areas.
We will also be implementing new equipment and skills in patch 2.1 specifically to aid in balance for PvP. And as Yoshi-P specifically mentioned last week, we will continue to look into the causes for any lag that might occur and counter them to ensure players have a smooth experience.

SE is taking the easy way out so they don't have to deal with an increase in "harassment" reports.

It is a smart decision. If harrassment happens in FF11 community because of ballista, under current condition of FF14 community, it is a smart decision. People are just not mature enough.

The best decision would have been to give each player their own privacy settings. That way, people who can't handle competition can hide behind their anonymity.

Seriously this is one of the reasons why I will never PVP in this game.... SE's already taking the FFXI rout with PVP. This^^ is just beyond stupid, if people want to be cry babies and turn there names off let them but stop stepping on the feet of players who are over the age of 10 and can actually handle w/e comes there way grief wise. I'm not gonna go QQing to a GM because dem feel's got hurt and someone said I was bad... grow up or gtfo.

So why do I have to be penalized for that? Why do I have to deal with it? I'm not going to blow up someone's tell's because they beat me in a PVP match. A smart decision would be to let players choose... SE is turning more into an american government with these child filters then they are actually letting people make there own damn choice.

    Also: harassment *

in FF11... in sports... in anything that's competitive. In a way, yes it's negative.... at the same time, it's kinda a way of life. In competition like fighting or any type of sports, you 'want' there to be that in your face 'Oooo, you just got knocked the f OUT!' type of service. It's the heart of PVP. Without any sort of adding that humane trait to people you are trying to kill... it's like.... it's like you are simply fighting other faceless souless robots instead of other human beings.... where's the satisfaction in that?

I can understand how its smart to fight against any incoming harassment before it comes... But anyone who is truly into PVP knows, thats simply part of the game, and if you can't take the heat, don't come to the kitchen. PVP isn't there to hug it o u t. It's there to kick ass and take names.
