    Hello all,

We spoke with the Wolves' Den development lead and wanted to remind you of some of the plans mentioned recently in the Letter from the Producer LIVE X and before during TGS, that will hopefully address some of your concerns regarding PvP.

Players participate in the Wolves' Den via the Duty Finder, so everyone has the option to jump in solo or join with a party of 4 players and match up with anonymous opponents from across servers. This is your opportunity to test your ability and see how you fair against a variety of skilled players. While we're aware some of you don't like the use of an anonymous name like Fresh Meat, the team has decided to go with that for now and don't have any current plans to provide additional options for it.

If you wanna tumble with your friends, the team is currently thinking about keeping this type of friendly competition to the housing districts, though it won't be available for patch 2.1.

There were a few clarifications on PvP mentioned during the Letter from the Producer LIVE at Tokyo Game Show:

Q.I'm worried there will be a disparity in strength between players who are friends fighting in pre-made teams and those who team up randomly using the Duty Finder. How will this be handled?
    A. They will be matched with similar people. Players in pre-made teams will be matched with other pre-made teams, and those who sign up randomly will play with others who choose to join a random match.

    Q. Exactly what will PvP-specific skills entail?
    A. There will be abilities you can use to immediately recover from sleep, bind, or other enfeeblement effects cast on you, and also passive traits that will reduce the duration of sleep effects. We will also expand these skills moving forward, as they can be used during the Front Lines PvP planned for the future.

    Q. Are there any plans for one-on-one matches in the open world?
    A. I understand the desire for an easy way to test your skills against other players, but we'd like to restrict this type of combat to housing areas.
We will also be implementing new equipment and skills in patch 2.1 specifically to aid in balance for PvP. And as Yoshi-P specifically mentioned last week, we will continue to look into the causes for any lag that might occur and counter them to ensure players have a smooth experience.

SE is taking the easy way out so they don't have to deal with an increase in "harassment" reports.

It is a smart decision. If harrassment happens in FF11 community because of ballista, under current condition of FF14 community, it is a smart decision. People are just not mature enough.

The best decision would have been to give each player their own privacy settings. That way, people who can't handle competition can hide behind their anonymity.

I think you got it other way around. Trolling, trash talks, harrassments, are done by the players that play badly. Players that can handle competition, will not trash talks because they are the winning one. The one that are making harrasmetns are usually the losers after the ballsita match

Someone who can't handle competition is someone who won't be saying "good game" or "good match" regardless of their personal outcome in the event. Also... please don't bring up ballista in a PvP discussion. Ballista was FFXI's sad attempt at PvP and PvP in general has grown a lot in the past 10 years.

I will take this as you are assuming that WoW will be better than FF11 ballista. Unfortunately, you do get trolled in WoW's random bg. They can simply just create an alt char on your server and spam you to internity. Only because you kill them too often in a random battleground.

It's done by males in general. Be they grown men or small boys. You have those who are more like little girls and wish to shake each other hands. And you have guys who are more in your face with it. Sorry to sound sexist, but if we wanted to share stories and have tea time sit down talks with each other as we discuss each others victories in the kitchen and talk about our boyfriends, we wouldn't be doing pvp to begin with.
You realize you're calling men who practice good sportsmanship "little girls" right? In my experience the folks who act as you suggest are either insecure or little boys.

Competition and harassment are two completely different things. Two people can compete with one another and still be civil, respectful and mature. There is absolutely no reason to harass another person because he was unable to best you in competition, nor if he bested you.
