Monk is 40s cooldown and apparently, according to the Bard I grouped with for Chimera, theirs is 30s. Between us we silenced Chimera's breath attacks the entire fight with no problems.

Tha you hadn't noticed Monks have Steel Peak shows how incompetent most are in not using it for dungeons.

If we go for the FF Lore in the past versions, its always the whitemage who had the silence, but if we check overall in MMO's, its usually the Mage who has a silence aswell as an archer, but you cant tell SE what path they are going ^^

That's a stun, not a silence. AotD is the silence. You can't stun bosses. Well, most bosses anyway.

So far to my knowledge only Paladins and Bards can Silence. Selene can but no one is going to rely on a scholar using that gimp fairy to silence... Maybe Monk or Blm can get a silence move. Actually I dont understand why BLM doesnt even have it in the first place...

This so much. Items like this would be (even more) worthless if everyone got silence. Throw your local alchemist a bone and buy some potions!

They arent as effective... as using a bard or paladin.

Actually I would argue MNK (who I assume is the class your referring) are just as effective if not more so, not only do I solo T1 and potentially T2 if I wished, but MNK can silence more often than any class and it is AoE. Granted the only drawback is the opo-opo requirement and its hit on DPS/TP, but MNK can silence something 3 or 4 times before anyone elses silence is ready again. Not to mention Perfect Balance gives you an on demand silence every two minutes should you use it for that.
