To answer your numbers question: to the best of my recollection: in the last week or so.. I have run for FC & LS people and yes, just for fun: Sastasha x4, Tam-Tara x1, Copperbell x1, Halatali x2, Toto-rak x3. Hauke x6(I think). Qarn x3. Brayflox x1.. Cutter x2, Stone Vigil x1, Darkhold x1, Ifrit (SM) x1, Titan (SM) x2, Garuda (SM) x3. Were they fun? Yep! The reward was in beating fun content with other people, including those who were new, or trying new classes. I also ran some dungeons as THM to mix things up and help some FC healers (I am very very bad at it. It could take several runs of each dungeon to get it down).

Now, all that said, if you don't enjoy a specific dungeon: don't run it. I don't think anyone bringing up fun is saying you must run dungeons you don't find fun. In fact, that is the point. If a dungeon is fun for you, you shouldn't need progression to run it. Is progression a part of the game? Well sure. In the long run in that it lets you unlock new content later. But if you don't find a dungeon fun, progression is more of a consolation prize for doing something you didn't enjoy, as opposed to being a bonus on top of something you did.

The biggest problem with progression in ARR is that it only applies to battle classes. The Crafters/Gatherers aren't treated nearly the same way. Once you exhaust the battle progression, you can level crafts/gathering but that stops at about ilvl 70, which is 20 below battle progression. To make matters worse, crafters and gathers lack real fun/immersive content to participate in besides just crafting. I'd love some kind of defense super FATE where all 3 types of classes work together: crafters can build fortifications & weapons to use such as cannons, guns, etc, gatherers can cut down trees/create debris or make shortcuts and battle classes can hold the line & do the fighting. Every class would have some purpose that's relevant to the current end game. Right now though that is not the case. :/

OP not everyone is as lucky as you with regards to drops from Coil so to them it's still progression even when 2.1 goes live. Have you cleared turn 5? have you gotten the weapons? it'll be buffed to i95, so that's something for people to strive for.

I'm going to enjoy the hell out of 2.1, even if CT drops are subpar gear there is still much to learn, it's fun to see your own group find new strategies on new content, doing world firsts, guiding new people, messing around with different group setups to optimize the run..etc.

Not everything has to be increased in x stats or numbers to be qualify as progression.

How can you disagree with people having fun? . If they say they're having fun, they are.

I personally had lots of fun this week, and this is what it has consisted of:

    -Getting Lightning's set.
-Creating all the alt characters I wish to eventually play with.
    -Writing their profiles. <roleplayer>
-Practicing Titan as a healer since I've read HM is hard and I like helping people.
-Running Brayfox ad nauseum till I got my Battle Mage set.
-Adding a bunch of screenshots to my screenshots folder.

I also enjoy creating videos/drawing/writing fanfiction, and Eorzea is a fascinating place.

    People enjoy different things.

Happens me alot. I would say I do that specific dungeon about 2 times per week right now. But I do other low level dungeons aswell. Maybe 2-3 per day depending on how many new people there are on my FC.

I have fun helping people run lower dungeons with my healer and tank. I think they wait a long time for a group and deserve to get a tank/healer that doesn't suck.

Last night I did totorak, got some cool glasses that will help me with my vanity set.

I keep seeing these people saying "YOU DONT NEED TO UPGRADE GEAR TO HAVE FUN"

i disagree i think you DO need to progress to have fun and have a reason to log in which is why i think 2.1 will really hurt this game.

I ask you guys this one question how many times a week do you log in and run Sastasha dungeon? because according to your logic you dont need to gain anything to enjoy the content and keep on running it over and over.
Progression in this game comes from gearing out all your classes, not just your main. Until you've geared every class in full ilvl90, you can't complain about running out of stuff to do.

    True.

It's the thing that sets this game apart from other MMOs

I had assumed that maxing only a single job would be the territory of casual players. I guess those new to FFXIV are still stuck in the mentality of other MMO games.

How? It's the same concept of alts in other MMOs but on one character. You get cross-skills yes but you don't need to gear out every alt class. That would be the same as gearing out alts in other mmos.

Satasha is boring, we need more dungeons like Hakkuke Manor (sp)

I stop and run dungeons like that all the time.
