You're not missing much anyway. In theory, Mumble is for coordinating strategy. In practice, people just talk your ear off about their cat or some other stupid non-game-related game thing.

In all my raiding teams we had a rule that basically translates as "Useful TS" (from french).
It means: everybody must be SILENT during the fights UNLESS they have something battle-related to say (asking for a BRD song, coordinating with the other healer to take care of a bad situation without letting the tank die, warning others that I have no more def cooldowns as a tank, announcing something when you've been assigned to watch a specific mechanics like stacks number, etc.)
only the raid leader is supposed to speak more "freely", and even that person should make it efficient and to the point, or it will break concentration too much. Lack of concentration = perfect recipe for a wipe-fest.
Most people hate being distracted during fights, and I'm one of those people. Plus it kills my immersion and I hate that. All I need is battle-related information to perform my role correctly.
