WTB allagan black armor!
WTB allagan black armor!
I can see SE's reasoning for now allowing us to dye everything. Earlier Yoshi P. was saying that he wanted to preserve certain classic looks (AF) and keep others in a way that matched the game's lore. Recall there was also something about "recognizability" so that when people see it they know exactly what it is.
I might be in the minority, but I don't want every single piece of gear to be dye-able.
I've always pictured gear I can't dye with the effect.

This is exactly how I feel about the current dye restrictions.Well let's see it makes everyone lvl 50 look exactly the same in some misguided attempt to keep the gear "unique". And now we're all uniquely ununique.
I don't care if someone else doesn't like I've changed the color of my clothes, I should have more say in my character's appearance than some stranger that feels the default colors are "iconic". They didn't earn my gear for me, I likely never play with them, and quite frankly justifying these restrictions just so they won't have suffer seeing other people in recolored gear in town is rather selfish. It won't stop their right to stick with the default colors
There's very little I hate more in an MMO than arbitrary restrictions on customization (f2p being one of those things, which luckily we don't have to deal with), and that's exactly what the dye restrictions are: completely, utterly arbitrary. Yes, that includes restrictions on AF gear and costumes like the Lightning/Snow outfits. All of it should be dyeable. Every. Last. Piece.
All of these are BS reasons, especially considering there are NPCs in the game wearing armor that for players is undyeable, but somehow they've managed to find articles in different colors (and yes, this includes AF sets).I can see SE's reasoning for now allowing us to dye everything. During 1.0, only crafted gears were dyeable.
Some stuff, I agree with not being able to recolor. Changing WHM AF from red/white to say... green/black would just be wrong.
But other stuff, like AK gear, which is just recolor of generic dye gear anyway... I dunno why we can't dye it.

most crafted gear still is.
but also some dungeon gear is too...barely. i find it dreadfully inconsistent that you can only color one or two pieces of ak gear, despite the strategeos legs being mis-matched from the body. you can color the entire siphai set, but you can't color vermillion one. its kinda stupid how dreadfully inconsistent it is.

I support customization. If I wanted everyone to look EXACTLY the same as me in a huge MMO, I'd go back to SWTOR.

not being able to dye certain (typically higher tier) gear is common to several MMOs for reasons i don't understand. i think the justification is that the gear is SPECIAL and MAGIC so you can't ruin it with gross colors. it would definitely be a huge improvement for us to be able to dye unique equipment
i only half agree with this but if that's his stance, that's fine, just limit the restriction to job gear. once a WHM outgrows their iconic white robe and slips into darklight/allagan/whatever else (i guess myth gear would also be off limits in this scenario) they should be able to customize their new gear as they see fit because there is no series continuity left to considerI can see SE's reasoning for now allowing us to dye everything.
