At this state of FFXIV, STR was used to increase the amount self-heals you do. However, due to content vastly outscaling the healing potential of your skills, STR is only used for content that you outgear. As a tank, you just stack all VIT. You can be STR if you love putting strain on your healers, and not using your self-heal anyway unless you have Infuriate up.

Although, with coming Warrior changes, it seems STR build isn't too far-fetched. Due to the switch of healing buff tied to Wrath stacks going to Defiance, you can freely spend your Wrath stacks without putting healers in a bad spot. Thus, doing more damage with STR is viable since you can spend Wrath stacks for more damage. Personally though, if I was a full time tank, there is no reason to stack STR. Aggro is only an issue if you have poor rotation, trigger happy DPS or both, whereas having more HP is only beneficial for doing what a tank is supposed to do, survive.

This makes sense. Considering the changes of 2.1, would it be reasonable to think a mix of STR & VIT would be helpful? We have such good DPS players in my FC and I worry if I suddenly drop 30 STR things will get ugly. However, until I saw the WAR changes, I've been using PLD solely for Coil, my warrior's been collecting dust since I hit 50, so I'm still re-adjusting to the WAR play-style.

I believe with the speculated change to Inner Beast lowers healed amount from 300% to 100%, your STR increase will still make this heal pitiful. However, that's not why you would use it. The 20% damage reduction is key. As for dropping 30 STR, full VIT Warriors can hold aggro off relic +1 BLM and i90 DRG/MNKs so it's entirely plausible that you can do the same. The only issue you may have is if they are really geared and you're sporting Bravua +0 instead of +1. Which can be remedied in places where it isn't a DPS race and your DPS can hold off. However given that 2x Butcher's Block Combo and 1 Storm's Eye pretty much guarantees you aggro over everything in your party, you won't really feel the pinch. You won't see impressive Inner Beast numbers though.

Yes. I, too, like reducing my incoming heals by 15% at the drop of a hat.

More often than not, keeping Wrath stack > using Wrath stacks.

Except you don't reduce your incoming heals by 15%, you reduce them by 13% and over the course of re-building your stacks its more like 7%. Unless you are taking huge levels of damage (levels that don't exist outside of huge trash pulls in 4-mans) you are always better off using Inner Beast if the healing is needed (i.e you're below 50%). Use Inner Beast. It is better in almost every situation.
