Are there any detailed guides around for playing as MRD/WAR? Can't seem to find one that covers the basics and finer points of the class/job. Something like this would be epic: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...Compendium-2.0

Closest thing you'll find. Unfortunately it's not as good as the PLD equivalent, but it's... something. To be honest, WAR is very "learn by doing" so a guide won't help all that much - better to just dive head first into a dungeon and experience for yourself.

Here is my micro guide:
Keep your wrath stacks and maim always up, buff IB before using it, alternate featherfoot and foresight, stay alive!
If for any reason you NEED to IB -> infuriate -> IB, use convalescence to keep the healing bonus up while building wrath back.
Remember that berserker and vengeance will give you one stack of wrath.
Second wind suxxx, its not worth the slot. Convalescence, internal release and featherfoot are good, provoke and flash mandatory.
Guides are nice but what you need is to tank tank tank! Avoid fates if you are leveling up, get into dungeons.

If you're looking for how to tank pre-BCoB then you just need to find a basic opening rotation guide.
If you're looking in to BCoB you're either ready for it (because you've had practice with things like tanking HM Garuda/Titan) or you got carried/Fate-grinded and need to learn how to use your relic & job skills (Wraith / Inner Beast)
Third option is you won't be ready for when it matters before the way to play the class changes with 2.1

STR is recommended.

Not a guide, but read it anyways:

At this state of FFXIV, STR was used to increase the amount self-heals you do. However, due to content vastly outscaling the healing potential of your skills, STR is only used for content that you outgear. As a tank, you just stack all VIT. You can be STR if you love putting strain on your healers, and not using your self-heal anyway unless you have Infuriate up.
Although, with coming Warrior changes, it seems STR build isn't too far-fetched. Due to the switch of healing buff tied to Wrath stacks going to Defiance, you can freely spend your Wrath stacks without putting healers in a bad spot. Thus, doing more damage with STR is viable since you can spend Wrath stacks for more damage. Personally though, if I was a full time tank, there is no reason to stack STR. Aggro is only an issue if you have poor rotation, trigger happy DPS or both, whereas having more HP is only beneficial for doing what a tank is supposed to do, survive.

This makes sense. Considering the changes of 2.1, would it be reasonable to think a mix of STR & VIT would be helpful? We have such good DPS players in my FC and I worry if I suddenly drop 30 STR things will get ugly. However, until I saw the WAR changes, I've been using PLD solely for Coil, my warrior's been collecting dust since I hit 50, so I'm still re-adjusting to the WAR play-style.Although, with coming Warrior changes, it seems STR build isn't too far-fetched.
