Could move the map to the menu, move the menu button to the start button, and you have a jump button! ^_^http://static.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl...pad.png?_v=6dw
Someone tell me where the jump button is supposed to go?
Oh...thats right.
And I am no thief! ;_;
I'm sorry, but if you can toggle jumping, what exactly what is the point of jumping in the game to begin with?
After all, if you can turn off jumping animations when they are required for navigating terrain or making jump attacks in battle, then you open a whole new can of worms in how clients interpret those actions when they are filtered. Just implementing jumping in terrain is a huge undertaking and in battle it is even bigger. There is much more to be lost than gained in implementing jumping this way.
If the jumping is just for bunnyhopping around and has no practical use in the game, why should the devs put a bunch of time and research into implementing it at all?
For my own part, I'm strongly against implementing jumping in the game unless they do it under these conditions:
1) Dragoon Job - This is where a proper jump attack MUST be implemented.
2) Emote to gain attention (although there are several emotes that do this already)
3) FFX-2/FFXIII-style jump where you can jump at certain locations to navigate terrain - I don't even like this option, but I could live with it.

Wow! You are impossible to please. You don't want jump, but when you have the option to opt out, you think its stupid? You don't like it so nobody can have it?
That seems selfish.
Jumping - if implemented - would be a graphic only effect that some people have a fetish for, and that others seem highly annoyed by. Any attempt to steer the devs to start implementing it - especially at this point when resources are already stretched thin working on critical elements - is nothing less than pure selfishness on the part of the jumpophiles.
I also find it hard to believe than anyone would leave or not play this game over the absence of a silly gimmick like jumping.

Well, sorry.

It's already planned at this point. It's funny, because as someone else pointed out, if this were any other MMO, something as trivial as jumping would not cause people to kick and scream so loudly in opposition. You think you are being the mature person in opposition of it? My gosh, its jump. The only immature thing about this whole ordeal is all of the players raging against it.
"amg! guize! if they add jump people will jump! ohh nooooooo!! my immersion!!!! my whole world is collapsing!!!!" lolol...
How silly that people are so annoyed with jumping.
Adding anything to a nearly empty game is not a waste of time, sorry.

I still want the FFXIII jump only. Or if they implement "battle jumping," just dodges...jumping in battle generally looks stupid and is distracting.
Peach Parfait/Khulan Angura on Gilgamesh
With auto-attack being introduced, I don't even see how they could incorporate a jump into an effective combat strategy anymore. Unless certain abilities deactivate AA on successful hit or something.
I don't think it'd look dumb though. For all intents and purposes, jumping during combat probably makes the most practical sense out of any jumping implementation ideas. It's also the trickiest, since it would depend on SE actually implementing it in a useful way, and not just as a gimmick.
