    Newb Question

    Hey guys,

    I am still new to ffxiv. I played 11 for years, so i'm not new to mmorpg's. I played for a little bit and I am now level 12. But I just had a few questions.

    1) Can someone explain the whole job changing situation? I heard all you have to do is change your weapon, but that doesn't work for me (at least maybe not yet, or i'm not doing something first?).

    2) I got a quest saying I have to do a dungeon, I was just wondering if it was soloable? It's the level 15 dungeon.

    3) Can someone explain the whole job progression situation? Like, say I wanted to be a paladin, what are the steps that I have to take class wise to be a paladin? or dragoon etc.

    That is all for now lol, I wont barrage the forum with a novel. Sorry if it's super simple questions, Just seems like they made a lot of changes that i'm not quite understanding fully yet.

    Welcome to ffxiv! To answer your questions....

    1. When you reach lvl 10 you can change to new classes after accepting the short quest at each classes home area. For example if you want to change from lancer to gladiator, you will need to go to the coliseum in uldah to join the gladiators guild. After you talk to their guild leader and join, you van then equip a gladiator weapon and change your job in that way.

    2.dungeons require 4 people to complete, 1 tank 1 healer 2 dps. Fun fact, duty finder takes forever to find a group with unless you are a tank or healer!

    3. To become a paladin you must achieve lvl 30 gladiator and lvl 15 conjurer. You must also complete all of the class quests for gladiator up to lvl 30. After this you can receive a quest to become a paladin. Note that jobs share levels with the classes they are built off of. So your paladins level will always be what your gladiators level is and vice versa.

    Hope that helps you out!

    Thanks for your help!!

    1) Where is Uldah? I started in Gridania and I've only seen it and the shroud. Not real sure how to get to the other cities lol!

    2) So duty finder will automatically put me in a dungeon party if I pick it?

    3) Okay, so to be a paladin I have to not only level Gladiator, but Conjurer as well? So, like for dragoon I have to level Lancer and what else?

    1.) Uldah is in Thanalan. You can technically run there, but it's quite a trip especially without your chocobo. I would suggest playing through the story until you get access to the airship and you can travel to all the major cities.

    2.) Yes, if you meet requirements for Duty Finder, it will place you into a suitable party (may take a while for anyone other than a tank).

    3.) You need 30 Gladiator and 15 Conjuror for Paladin. Dragoon is 30 Lancer and 15 Marauder.
    Also for your conveinance

    Bard: Archer (30) -> Pugilist (15)
    Paladin: Gladiator (30) -> Conjurer (15)
    Dragoon: Lancer (30) -> Marauder (15)
    Warrior: Marauder (30) -> Gladiator (15)
    Monk: Pugilist (30) -> Lancer (15)
    Scholar: Arcanist (30) -> Conjurer(15)
    Summoner: Arcanist (30) -> Thaumaturge (15)
    Black Mage: Thaumaturge (30) -> Archer (15)
    White Mage: Conjurer (30) -> Arcanist (15)

    You must go back to the guild of whatever your starting class was (I'm assuming lancer based on your character info here). Once you complete your level 10 class quest there you will be able to unlock classes by visiting their guilds like Makior said.

    Remember to return to your class guild every 5 levels as there will be a new quest and some of them unlock abilities.

    That's how you change classes after you've unlocked them. You have to unlock each class by doing a simple quest at the class's guild hall. (It's simply talking to first the receptionist and then the guildmaster.)

    There are no limitations on progressing all the classes. It seems most people at least start all nineteen classes, and quite a few players advance many or all of them all the way to level 50. Each class is advanced seperately, though. The level you've already reached in your starting class is not an overall character level, but the level your character has for that particular class. When you unlock another class, you'll start that new class at level 1. (Which means you'll want to still have your level 1 gear to wear. Keep your starting equipment until you've outleveled it on all classes.)

    Two ways to get there:
    1) Continue to follow the main storyline quests up to level 15 when you get a quest to be the envoy from your starting city to the other two. This quest unlocks the use of airships which allow you to port between them anytime thereafter for a fee.

    2) Travel south through Central and South Shroud, and then south-west through Eastern and Central Thanalan to reach Ul'dah. (There is no similar way to get to Limsa Lominsa overland, as it's an island. For that one, you'll have to wait until you get airship access.)

    Yes, eventually. If you're on a DPS class, it may take a long time, though. If you want to shorten that time, you can use chat to find other people to group with, form your party ahead of time, and then use Duty Finder simply to enter the dungeon with your already-formed party. Joining a Free Company (this game's version of what many MMOs call guilds) or a linkshell (private chat channels) can be good ways of connecting with people to make it easier to find other players to group with.

    To make it easier to get to Ul'dah from Gridania, at level 10 you can hire a chocobo that you can ride for ten minutes (at which time you automatically dismount) - this is actually just enough time to ride between the two cities. Basically, keep heading in a south-westerly direction and you should reach Ul'dah without too much trouble. The route goes like this: Gridania - Central Shroud - South Shroud - Eastern Thanalan - Central Thanalan - Ul'dah. Just be aware of aggressive mobs along the way, but if you're fast enough you should be able to outrun them without too much trouble.
