Still it's a matter of opinions and forums are open to debate, and I enjoy debates!

I'm not trying to convince anyone neither saying that my way is the right way. I respect all points of view and I also understand that not everyone enjoy the games the way I do.
But I can't agree with things like "FFXI was wrong, period", "WoW s the right and only way", "chess is the best game ever and everyone knows that".

Opinions aren't real facts, but just opinions.

There are all kind of gamers, and as Reslin said there should be games that satisfy all of them. But sadly that isn't happening in the MMO industry...
And the reason can be resumed in just one word: Money.

I must agree with you here. But don't you think that people will get sick of playing Coil as much as they want? As I see so many players complaining about running WP and AK non-stop.

Again, developing raids and dungeons takes time and money. I still think time sinks are needed so the project can survive (money wise).

No I do agree with the weekly coil cap but only for one reason. Myth gear is an option and it's the same level. That should be gear you could repeatedly run for whereas coil locks you out. If you're die hard and want to collect all the coil gear you can if not you can use myth to fill in the gaps that you didn't receive from coil. Just my opinion but others may disagree. Thing is though the hardcore will always run out of content no matter what. You're seeing it here too I mean.. people are going "All I do is log in two days cap my myth and log out why play?" Cap or not I don't see these people sticking around in the long run. What matters is making your expansions worthwhile enough that it draws more people in and eventually brings those players back. Once again though.. this is my opinion. I enjoy debating with you as well. I don't mind discussing different viewpoints as long as no one gets personal about them. Even if we disagree.

@besbeset in vanilla wow endgame at 60 was something else! It took like you said..hours to complete the raids as well as organization.it was simply amazing. Molten core...crazy! I was a level 60 priest and ferrying to 60 took time.it wasn't fast at all.there was challenge along the way so it wasn't a full walk in the park. Once they raised the level cap and introduced dungeon funder it went to crap.

I'm hopeful thing improve with this mmo. Good points you raised! Maybe they should add very tough areas in the future that require party play..?I would love to see new zones like that.

Running dungeons also took a lot of time, and when I say "a lot" I really mean it. I remember doing some 3-4 hours LBRS runs (yeah, a single dungeon), and that's just an example.
Dungeons in Vanilla/BC can't be compared with how are they nowadays.

I remember a trip to Blackrock Depths which took 6 hours to visit different bosses and quests in the instance. It was an adventure with its true meaning.
The game industry has alienated me from MMO games with their dumbing down policy. Now instances take 10-30 minutes tops and most do not even make players use their intellect.

That's primarily because many players want instances to be that short (to fit into their lifestyles).

However, I really feel like SE has taken it too far with this whole, 1.5 hour limit on dungeons. Sometimes I just want to go exploring, and there's no option to do that. :-\

I used to hate going to blackrock depths. It was such a long instance and you couldn't finish it all. I wish it was a city or something you can visit because it was very big and it had a lot of different areas. Getting the brd quests done was a pain.

Actually, to believe that any new MMO coming out is not vastly influenced by WoW would be naive to the point of silliness. All of these new MMO borrow ideas almost exclusively from WoW and other MMOs that have a smidge of success. The era may be different, but Video game companies still play the "Safe route" and only copy whats popular, and rarely if ever try anything new because most people are still afraid/confused/angered by things not in their comfort zone. I.E Humans be Human.

That said, FFXI was still quite successful despite anyones opinion on the matter. Yes it was an old school design, but one thats at least stood the test of time to some degree of success for nearly 12 years now and is still til this day profitable. While it has many flaws, it was still enjoyable despite them. While I don't think FFXIV should be more like 11, something new MMOs are forgetting is that the Open world shouldn't just be a pretty Waiting room to access raids, it should be worth exploring, have its own dangers, and be over-all enjoyable and have its own content.

FFXIV's open world content is Exp grinding. While FFXI certainly didn't perfect the idea of NM's/HNM's, the provided a sense of reward to exploring... Theres no reason they should be trashed entirely. There's a lot to say for an experience thats archaic. Just because its old doesn't mean you throw it away. on a slightly more ranty opinion, I think the Item Level system was the most horrifically terrible thing to happen to MMOs since their debut, while i know this is only an opinion, i firmly believe if a game is going to be about the gear, It'd be nice if the gear was a little more than flat 2-dimensional shovelware with as little effort into designing or balancing it as possible. Probably why i loved FFXI and Diablo 2 so much.

This doesn't all apply to FFXIV, and FFXIV has its high points and I wouldn't call the game a failure at all. Just sad that I look around and realize this drull idea of content is what most people consider good. I can't be surprised really, sales of games like Call of Duty and Battlefield are the poster boy of "Play it safe = $$$$"

For me Honestly as long this game has a wide variety of content. From easy every day stuff, to super uber hard nigh undefeatable and everything in between. I will be happy. I like the direction this game has gone, and I am only hoping with the sub we do get content updates on a regular basis

BTW I loved vanilla XI, but that's a time past

You mean the game where the most innovation between each release is the intense, time consuming task of updating the number on the box? XD
