That didn't work. What we got was freedom where we didn't need it and over structured systems where it didn't work. Open ended without any clear direction made people confused and bored.
I don't think it's as open-ended as it is lacking content.

There isn't anything to do but grind and levequests (which are grinding).

If they put in more of the main story quests, like one every 7 ranks or so, the game would be much better for me...but one at 18 or 16 or whatever and then another at 36? Holy crap it's 15-20 levels of pure grinding without any content between it!
