    Problem is if you have the content difficult enough where you get frustrated from the difficulty you have people that will just up and leave for a game that's more relaxing while not being as difficult. MMO's in the past got away with it because that was the only option. They didn't opt for a bigger world because there's not much of a point when people won't spend much time in those areas. Not to mention if it took awhile to get to places people would grow bored and find it tedious running back and forth. People already complained during the leveling up process of the current world and the amount of running around you have to do. The issue is that leveling up/gearing up FF11 wasn't that much of an accomplishment. Killing one mob was no more difficult than killing ten mobs. It's tedious and time consuming aka a grind. Not difficult.

    As for the bolded part I enjoyed my time spent in old school mmo's but I refuse to spend time like that again. I'm not alone and if things required that much time I'd play another game that didn't.

    Good lord, the XI people need to leave their rooms. What was XI endgame besides an endurance test? There's a reason why Maplestory and XI lost a lot of their players after their brief euphoric moment.

    TL;DR - no one wants 4-20 hour boss fights.

    No one is asking for extremely long boss fights like XI had (though that, in part, was because of gameplay mechanics).

    Despite what you might think of FFXI or other peoples negative posts, the game had good ideas and some of them could be implemented into the current system and would certainly make FFXIV stand out more from other MMORPGs, especially in the endgame. I'd like more things to do in endgame rather than repeat the same couple dungeons just to get equipment. I know they're adding more to do in ver2.1 (CT and some HM dungeons iirc, among others), but it would still be nice to see some of the good ideas borrowed from XI.

    TL;DR? - I don't think anybody wants an endurance test or endless grind, we want more variety in XIV. And XI has things that XIV could borrow that might give us more variety if (properly) implemented.

    This is partially untrue. 1.0 had a pretty expansive world. The problem was they made it by cheating through using the same rocks and trees over and over and over and over again. Which was a huge complaint to players, especially in regards to the Black Shroud as you could never tell where you were since everything looked the same.

    Anyway, so basically they had to redo the whole world from scratch after that and make it more unique, so they had to cut size on time. Not to mention the needing to add zones lines to help with the OMGAWFULSLOW lag that was 1.0.

    This is not to say I am complaining. I played 1.0, this world is a million times better than that one. Just wanted to point this out.

    Here's an idea OP. As part of the FFXIV crossover program SE could do-- say, a throwback event every now and then or something permanent where they would implement a FFXIV style version of old FFXI content. They would just need to be short and sweet and not the three-plus hour grindfest that was Dynamis.

    For example

    Nyzul Isle, Limbus and Salvage would all fit nicely in FFXIV.


    Sky & Sea - Multi-turns like Coil with no weekly limit.

    Area Name: Tu'lia (Ru'Aun Gardens, Shrine of Ru'Avitau and Ve'Lugannon Palace all in one giant stage: Think like the way Brayflox's map is or even CM)
    • Turn 1: Fight through sky fodder with mini bosses Olla Grande, Zipacna then finally Genbu
    • Turn 2: Same deal as above but with Steam Cleaner, Mother Glove and boss: Seiryu
    • Turn 3 & 4 follow that pattern.

    After that you unlock the Kirin battle. And just because we're in Tu'lia we could also have one of the best battles ever to grace FFXI: Divine Might!

    The problem is that a few people spam the forum with requests of FF14 to have the same content as FF11 + RoZ + CoP. Expecting 4 years of content after a few months is just silly. Settle down and accept that it takes time. The "FFXI content" will come later at a slow pace.

    Not that you'll call it "FFXI content" because it will be different. (SE always does things different between their games)

    It's been so many times I've repeating my experiences here...

    Started XI after XIV 1.0 final save, and I actually enjoy and like the game very much. For an old game, it's still very beautiful.

    And yes, the pace was kinda slower but that doesn't mean it's easy. It can be fast without realizing it. Raid contents and alliances have proven that.

    Lately, SE has introduced content called Monstrosity, which effectively revitalize old regions. Now every time I travel to those area, I find some activities.

    As for grinding, people had realize places like Gusgen Mines or Crawler's Nest overly packed, so they have found more suitable places to grind. And even those places started to get crowded too.

    Right now I heard they added more new stuff to revitalize old contents too. Too bad I already quit XI to commit myself to ARR for now. But I want to go back to XI again someday.

    My only complaints for XI is the lacking of inventory spaces to accommodate huge list of stuff XI has to offer.
