And if you keep just doing your rotation without realizing that your buff didn't go off then you shouldn't be playing DRG either.
Say also that because of lag in buff timing, you didn't realize you missed (because most players dance at the 5/7oclock positions for easier transitions), you didn't realize and started TTT or IDC.
Now you're double screwed, waste 2 GCDs, your rotation's completely off, you have to restart HT, your IDC is going to fall off, and you cannot actually filler with anything because DRG has only one viable filler, and it is a dps LOSS, and it screws up your rotation even more.
I'm not even saying MNK is harder then DRG at all. in fact i never said it anywhere in this thread, I even said they're both similar in terms of difficulty. The only thing im arguing is that monk has more positional demand because that's the entire play style of the class.

That's not the point. Dragoons have a very set rotation to keep up all their buffs/debuffs. If they miss a flanked heavy thrust, then they will need to reapply it, which uses up a global and leads to Disembowel falling off before their next Full Thrust, making them need to reapply it early, causing them to clip Chaos Thrust, etc. etc. From what I've seen, monks don't have this problem because they can fit abilities in between their 3-form combos (edit: they can also mix and match their combos). And if you keep just doing your rotation without realizing that your buff didn't go off then you shouldn't be playing DRG either.
Edit 2: My bad, apparently monks have it even easier. A non-flanked Twin Snakes/Snap Punch still applies the buff. GG.

Honestly, like most MMOs, I don't think any class is difficult in this game. However, it feels like a number of Dragoons in this thread are on some epeen mission to prove to the world that Dragoon > Monk in difficulty because the community had at some point developed the perception that Monk is the hardest class to play. I personally think they are about equal.

we have a similar view (about equal) however what im seeing is the opposite. Im seeing dragoons saying "it hurts us considerably as well" in that each positional hurts about 3-4 times as much, while they acknowledge monks have positional checks 5x as often. then im seeing monks bust in and say "nu uh! it hurts us 100x more, we are by far harder to play than dragoons and mages!".Honestly, like most MMOs, I don't think any class is difficult in this game. this all feels relevant to me since my 3 most played are drg monk and blm :P.
made most acutely aware of positions as a dragoon. boss turns at the wrong time, you have to stop EVERYTHING and fix it. sometimes its higher dps to forget heavy thrust and finish it when the boss comes down. only 5 positional checks a minute, but you have a more difficult rotation to make up for it.
as a monk i dont feel near as hurt by a turn here or there. As a monk your entire game plan is to move into the right spot, but this is made up for the fact that your rotation is mindless.
blm has the 2nd easiest rotation, but is hit the hardest by any given forced move. As a blm youre forced to think ahead (as easymode tried to say) to minimize movements. Nothing is worse than casting a 3s spell then at the last moment having to move, wasting 2.5s of DPS time, a hit harder than monks or dragoons face. if monks have 25 checks a minute to a dragoons 5, blackmages more than likely only have 1 or 2.
all and all, none of them are really that difficult. which is harder 110% depends on the fight.
I'm just going to say that for me, Dragoons are more frustrating than difficult because their skill design isn't fluid at all.
Monks have skills built around the concept of always being in motion which, when you get into the mindset of playing that class, becomes simpler due to muscle memory and movement pattern recognitions.
Dragoons are built stupidly in that their class skills are a poor mishmash of stationary skills and positional skills, and then suddenly their job skills basically paralyze your movement for a good 3-4 seconds which throws everything out of sync.
