And after you get level 50 on a job, it all goes to waste.
I like XIV very much overall and I think it is balanced very well for leveling your 1st Class to 50. Obviously it needs more content for "post 50" and I am sure that will come. Our 1st "Major Content Patch" is just around the corner however, it is pretty much just more Instanced Content. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I will agree with the OP in that they should bring back some "Open World Non-Instanced Dungeons" to explore.

My idea is that there should be Coffers that need Keys to unlock which are dropped by mobs in the dungeons. Sometimes the coffers have gil, sometimes they have Gear/weapons/items and sometimes they have "Wanted Posters" in them which act as a Guildleve that spawns an NM. The mobs in the Dungeons should range from "easy to solo" to "hard to solo" up to "you better bring friends" (or hope some stranger(s) will help). The "Wanted Poster Guildleves" would have a similar range plus you can save them and return later when you have more time or need to bring your FC to help.

Also put some mobs in there like Flans that drop rare crafting items. (Flans make the most sense since they "absorb living things" and sometimes retain items in their gelatinous bodies.)

In any event, I am all in favor of the "Theme Park MMO" so put in some "rides" for the open world thrill-seekers.

I personally don't miss running through malms of copy-pasted zones to get anywhere. That is something I don't miss at all from 1.0. Sure it was bigger, but it was empty and comparatively lifeless. Not to say I wouldn't mind a massive world, just as long as it has some effort put into it.

I do miss having the potential to be killed in the open world outside of Gorgimora/Odin/Behemoth however.

And running AK/WP 300 times is different how? (comparable to your lol XI comment) Also, there is nothing "Relic" about these Relics. They are average weapons that anyone can easily get.

I started playing XI when it released in NA. I played up til Abyssea took away everything I enjoyed about the game. The problem is with games today; companies have taken out what you people deem as "time sinks". These 'time sinks', weren't really time sinks. They were inter-dependency checks. Things felt like they took to long because often you needed help to complete them or to get somewhere. Things required socialism, and often if you weren't, you rarely got anything accomplished. Companies removed the need to rely on others which greatly speed things up. You now can do everything on your own. You fear nothing because you have nothing to lose. Every MMO since XI has had this same fault. You wonder why they fail or become F2P so quickly. There is nothing holding players to the said game. Short and simple...

Companies have taken away inter-dependency checks and replaced them with nothing. With nothing, there IS nothing to keep anyone playing your game.

    Great.
Instead of talking about what we could have to improve aspect of this game that we miss, we're just throwing around blame and fault. Like always.

This is why I come here less and less. I've grown fat and proud with haughty arrogance over the miserable masses.

Personally, I like that FFXIV isn't like FFXI. I spent 6 years in Vanadiel and it hurt. I couldn't spend the time I did on FFXI now on FFXIV if I wanted to. I LOVED FFXI and do miss the type of game it was but back then, I had time for a game so consuming. I'm taking FFXIV so slow it's ridiculous but I enjoy everyday I log on. Sure the rush to 50 and to Darklight out your first job was there, but i'm glad that rush is over. Binding Coil? Why stress myself over that when Myth AF is just as good or can be better than Allagan. I'd rather wait it out over time collecting Myth accessories and armor. I'm about 2-3 days of playtime from getting my Axe of the Luminary and it's the "hardest" thing I've done in FFXIV in terms of time. We should all be a little grateful for the way FFXIV is built in that we can make progress and have time to do other things in this day and age where multitasking is the norm. No one has time to play just ONE game.

There is everything wrong with this statement. People want this to be the only game they can play. We do not want to be forced to play other subpar mmos because this one lacks content.

Why would I only want to play one video game for months/years? There's so many good games out there. Why pick just one?

Exactly! FFXIV ARR is my main MMO, but I don't limit myself to just that game. I also play Aion from time to time, Console games etc.

If you just dedicate your life to one MMO, your missing out on a lot of games.
