This is the same exact situation in my group. Foe Requiem helps but it is not the reason, I keep telling players that it is because BLM is a burst job and scale insanely well with ilvl90 gear...but no one here seems to believe me.I don't really know what a BLM can do, but ours tops charts on every fight and our dps comp is solid so it's not really anything but the class. Not really blowing anyone out of the water, but has a noticeable step up on the rest of the group. That's why I tell him no more Foe Requiem ever again.
Hey guys, average damage on a random attack is really meaningful to a damage per second discussion.
You must raid with some really bad #everyotherDPSinthegame.I don't really know what a BLM can do, but ours tops charts on every fight and our dps comp is solid so it's not really anything but the class. Not really blowing anyone out of the water, but has a noticeable step up on the rest of the group. That's why I tell him no more Foe Requiem ever again.
Our SMN tops every ST chart on every fight, and our DPS comp is solid so it's not really anything but the class.
Not really blowing anyone out of the water, but has a noticeable step up on the rest of the group.

My average autoattack is 200. No wonder BLMs do so much more DPS. Their Fire does more damage than my autoattack! I have seen the light!
I didn't realize that posting the damage of a Fire 1 was a discussion.
Simple version of game balance: Not even 10% of the game population actively training for turn 5 coil, less than 0.01% actually passed turn 5 yet the ignorant mass are trying to "balance" the game
You just proved right here that you don't know what you are talking about. Tell me how you can beat a SMN on Turn 1 ? Where there's two targets ? explain to me plox.
And seriously, I can say the same thing to you : your SMN must be bad.
But stay in your perfect world... if that's what you want.
The damage of each of the BLM's attacks have to scale well.
The damage gained to each cast has to be equal to the damage gained from multiple damage sources that the other classes use such as dots, auto attacks and more abilities per minute.
The regen phase and transitions also break up the damage greatly. BLM is simply designed to allow for otherwise ridiculous numbers.
THAT SAID
I do wonder about the scaling, but I haven't tested it enough to go one way or the other.
I'll take the word of more experienced people that it's not horribly imbalanced.
My own experience, however, is that in turn 4 I was doing around 280 in all darklight except for pants and belt (they were AK) and relic (no +1 since all myth goes to my monk).
I also had a cheap HQ zircon ring (bite me).
Then I replaced the ring with a ilvl90 from turn 1.
Next time in turn 4, I was doing 330-350 consistently.
NOTE
I am not comparing these numbers to other classes. AoE is number padding, so I'm only comparing to myself.
I think this is simply a byproduct of how AoE works in this game since there is no max damage cap.
It's pretty crazy though, and my single target did go up considerably.
I'm not saying the scaling is imbalanced, but every upgrade for a BLM feels pretty meaningful.
I'm not just talking about its big numbers per hit, but dps wise.
I haven't seen a BLM that's very geared, but I'd like to to see how they stand.
