I'm not too keen on having FFXI-2. Don't get me wrong, I loved XI. Played it for nearly 8 years...
but I don't think we need to add all this stuff from XI. Maybe a few things to draw inspiration from,
but don't just copy/paste XI ideas into XIV.

Now this is post I'll like. I want FFXIV first to be its own game. A lot of the different "claims" the OP mentions also have tons of dissenting opinions not liking the suggestions, which he conveniently omits. They also tend to bunch together suggestions into one big mess of "We want FFXI-2", if not overtly, then in large lists asking for changes to FFXIV's most fundamental systems.

There are two things that I like about FF XIV ARR and they are 1. It's not FF XIV 1.0 and 2. It's not FF XI. Since I received my invite to phase 2 of ARR (that I nearly deleted due to memories of 1.0's beta!) XI has moved to the top of my list of games I hated after playing them. I had no enjoy enjoyment from XI and I'd rather continue to enjoy most, if not all, of XIV ARR.
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
Final Fantasy 11 is still creative and new in many respects. It's one of the very few MMORPGs left that offer anything unique on the market. Final Fantasy 14 is basically WoW with a facelift. And anyone who has played WoW knows that to be the case.
So if you want creative and new content, I would argue that using 11 as a standard would be the way to go. It has a lot of great ideas that just needed better implementation. 14 missed a golden opportunity to do something along those lines, but instead decided to play it safe and mimic WoW like every other MMO out there is doing.

FF11 was just a good example of what to NOT do. It had more flaws than any other MMO available at the same time.
I know some masochists enjoyed the 100 people fighting for claim of Despot, or 100 people fighting for claim of Fafnir, or standing 6 hours in various zones to be first to claim sandworm. But a lot of us prefer PLAYING games, and not sit there and roll our thumbs. I probably had at least 3 years game time logged on FFXI, and 2 years was just sitting waiting.
You're playing the wrong game then, because FF14's content is as generic as possible, this is especially true for coil. 2.1 also adds nothing creative or unique, simply the same content every MMO has been getting for the better part of the decade. Yoshi himself has said he doesn't create, he just copied great ideas.

No, I keep saying Abyssea was really great about FF11 and they could add a lot more like that where you can quickly join and leave content without all the time wasting around the older FFXI content (and some of those terrible VNMs that were added later). I'm sure the latest expansion also made FFXI better, but I haven't played seekers. But I'm all for SE going more towards these fun directions, instead of the masochist content that people keep lifting up. (SEA etc. which I did for 2 years and got 0 items out of it due to playing the wrong job)
No one is asking for "masochist content", everyone is asking for the actually fun well designed content, like nyzul, limbus, salvage, campaign, forced pop NM's, BCNM's(could be in the form leves, do a lot of leves - > get points you can trade in to undertake a 4-8 man boss leve, kind of like ff14 1.0 had..) and open world RAIDS like sky/sea, but not boring and stupid like them.
Please stop responding to people and posting your opinion based on what you want(we want boring 48 hour repop nm's and 1000 people claiming a single mob! - no one is saying this) them to say, and not what they're actually saying. Read our posts properly.

Nobody is saying that the Endgame in XI was flawless, nobody is saying that. But because a few of the endgame content was terrible, that does not mean there wasn't some amazing ideas.
ALL of those ideas can be tuned to make them less Masochistic as you say, and you probably haven't played for awhile because they did tune them down and made them more accessible. HNM's are now force pop, Dynamis you can now enter once per day and doesn't cost you money. I'll keep repeating until it sticks, but there is great Inspiration to draw from events like Nyzul Isle, Besieged, Dynamis, Sky, Sea, etc. All those events are unique and can be tuned down as to be less time consuming but STILL retain their uniqueness.

- Nyzul Isle
Lamp floors, disc progression only for the holder when it came out, optimized for specific jobs (brd especially was useless)
- Besieged
Extreme frame rate drops, doom; had it not been for the massive IS boost, people would have abandoned it entirely
- Sky (They fixed the spawn timers on these NM's)
Competing against a zillion other linkshells for pop items. Steam Cleaner not spawning. Ullikummi. Teleporter randomness on the way to Kirin. Gates. Magic aggro EVERYWHERE
- Sea
Same as above, this time with truesight mobs. Oh, and how could we forget the dev team's pet Absolute Virtue?
- Dynamis
3 hours for a mind-numbingly low AF2 drop, while some greedy idiot rounds up all the currency and sells it all
- Limbus
Want to go in this area? Sorry, there's a BLM soloing it! Please wait :-)
- Campaign
So awesome that an entire swathe of Vana'diel (the Northlands) lie perpetually out of reach because the NPCs are too weak to take the outpost. Inability to teleport to beastmen strongholds. Medal demotion for not playing enough. Oh, and who could forget the fortifications EXP nerf? Thanks Square for ruining any incentive.

Reactionary Rampart. Sure was fun waiting for it to spawn Gate Widow with a 2% spawn rate! Extremely low drop rates and spawn rates ahoy! Oh, with the added bonus of having to unlock abilities every single time.

15 minute ??? respawns, even better if another LS was there wanting the same content
- BCNM
All right, BCNMs were okay
i would love to do some of the FFXI style endgame again, no question since XIV looks great.. but alot of the mentioned endgame content were from expansions <.< this is still the base of XIV, not to mention it will take them months/years to make this content if they were to decide to take this suggestion. I'm 100% for it but it's gonna be a while anyway so we'll just have to wait and see what they push out.
