This is what I do as well, and I rarely lose aggro. Only exception is a black mage getting trigger happy or repeatedly casting flare without using quelling strikes. It also helps to pop Fight or Flight at the beginning of an encounter to give you that little boost (and your off GCD abilities, assuming you don't have to save the silence for something and you aren't CCing any mobs).

If the mob pack is going to be more than 3, I flash spam the hell out of it.
