Why do people continue to excuse SE's amateur behavior in just about everything? It's pretty much standard for US-based MMORPG to have patch time around midnight in all the MMORPGs I have played. That time is certainly most inconvenient for any US-based company, but they picked that time since North America is the biggest MMORPG market and they want NA players to be happy. For some reason, while pretty much every US based company have no problem getting people doing patch at 1am, it's actually hard for Japanese to do the same time even though the time zone difference would give them an advantage here. And no I've never heard of any other MMORPG maker alternate their patch time to somehow appease the Euros. NA is solidly bigger than Euro in terms of gaming population, and I really doubt people will be happy just because patch only screws them 50% of the time versus 100% of the time.

Yes, except, the maintenance schedule invariabl\y hits the same people, and with the freaking ridiculous amount of maintenance in the last couple of weeks, there is a sizeable number of players who have lost several days opportunity to play. I mean, why not rotate the maintenance hours so that the impact is distributed fairly across the whole population? The way it's been done always impacts certain people. My playing hours are generally 10-11pm central US through 2-3am Central US. Go back and look at the last 2-3 weeks and see how many days my playing time has beein interrupted by maintenance. I pay the same sub as you, so why should my playing time be significantly reduced by maintenance? Where's my discount?

If the hours were rotated so that maintenance doesn't always hit the same players - it would at least be fair.

People need to understand that there is both a SE of Japan and SE of North America. They're running one build of the game across two separate data centers.

Sometimes the Japanese development team has to do maintenance, sometimes SENA Data center maintenance and sometimes SEJP has to Data center maintenance.

The need for maintenance is not under question, the timing is. If you constantly hit the same people with an outage, those people get pissed.

2) Most of SE's Maintenances for 'All Worlds' falls around 11pm PST (2am EST) and therefore is well within you're 'midnight' demand.

3) EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE HAS TO HAPPEN SOMETIMES! DEAL WITH IT!

Let me reiterate. Bear in mind, I'm not making excuses. I work for a company that has to employ large volumes of data over a server and display them for consumers:

SQUARE. ISN'T. UNITED. STATES. BASED.

They aren't going to make their people work overtime, wasting more money, getting less work out of them to make, in all reality, their minority player base happy. Though Square seems receptive to input, I'll tell you the stark reality. They don't care about you or your ideas. They don't care about me or my ideas. There are too many people with too many ideas and thoughts on how it should be to care about them.

If you can't get right with that, you may want to make your own company and change the way an IT/service based company operates. Until that day comes, either accept it or don't play. These are basically your options.

They can't employ rolling upgrades in this type of setting. They also want their people at their stations to lend a hand, to make sure things don't go off the rails. How can someone view this as negative? They care enough about their product that they want full department load on it. Can't you see they are trying to accomplish in the long run?

They don't want to waste money for people on call and overtime. Again, how can the be misconstrued as bad? They are saving money so they can make more and better updates. Wouldn't you take a hit for a few hours to have it pay off down the road?

Seriously. With your mindset, you would be trying to catering to everyone only to fail. I want you to think about it from a business standpoint. What makes more sense?

A.) Take all of the servers offline for a few hours when all of your people are already in the office ready to go and on standby in the event of a catastrophic event hurting some users but in the end taking time to fix what's broken and create a positive experience in the long run.

B.) Break the work load up increasing the chance of a bad load, pay people to be on call wasting money that your department doesn't have, force mandatory overtime where you employees will give about 50% of their potential (and hate you for), and turn a 6 hour issue into an 18 making something that could have been done easily into a gigantic mess and push more bad PR.

If you pick B, I need you to turn off your computer, travel to the Yukon Territory and live out the rest of your days as a paranoid hermit.

When will people realize that maintenance of a server does not cater to any one group, they do it when they want to do it because quite frankly, no matter what time they pick, SOMEONE will be unhappy that they are unable to play. I swear people think they are the center of the damn world that SE is out to get them with their maintenance times. I can't play right now, i have off today only. Yet here i am responding to forum posts and browsing the internet enjoying my night. Seriously, you are not and never will be special. So if the lack of feeling special is pissing you off, then I don't know what to tell you. They will continue to do the maintenance times when they choose and you have ZERO say about it. Don't like it? Don't subscribe. Play another game with no maintenance. Oh wait...

To be clear, I wasn't defending these maintenances, because honestly, I wish I was playing right now. Unfortunately, I have no control over these maintenances, so I can only play when the game is available. Complaining will not stop the maintenances, and no matter what the schedule may be, someone will be angry.

PS: I live in America on the east coast.
