Some were near start (Drg/Sam Pentamonster, Ranger Cannons, BLM Cannons), some midway (War/Nin Cannons, Summoner Cannons), and from what I have heard some things now.

I really do not want to see anything like FFXI for this game...the interface maybe but that is about it. I want everything else to be different and to be quite honest the biggest disappointment for me in this game was the similar theme of FFXIV and FFXI. I would have preferred to see something with more of a modern spin on it like FFVII, FFVIII or FFXIII. I feel like all they really did was switch a few theme songs around and switch different aspects of the cities from FFXI (ie. Limsa Lominsa has Sandorias castle and Bastoks port with more piers...useless piers at that.). I just feel like they turned this into a sequel and I have never felt like that with any of the other FF titles.

Sorry this might be way off topic but I have just seen this sentiment a lot lately.
I can understand your will of innovations, but I'm sure importing some aspects that made FFXI a masterpiece is the only reasonable way to change the future of the game. Almost all of the people who are still playing FFXIV are ex FFXI-player, and they hope that someday this game will be as its predecessor.

    P.S.

    - Repetitive
    - Boring as hell
    - Totally un-relaxed zerging

Well put and I agree that some things should be brought over. I just don't want it to be the same game all over again. I am seeing some possibilities of things being similar or virtually the same that I hope do not occur (ie. Garlean Empire being the same as the Zilart or Ishgard being the new Jeuno). If they do end up doing these things I just hope they put a new spin on it.

At some point however these two titles are going to have to part ways to become distinct or one of them will be scuttled to minimize resource usage. Apparently SE plans on having 2-3 separate ongoing MMO's so I would think they would want to appeal to a broader base of customers rather than just having 2-3 games that are similar in theme and having the same customer base spread out among those games. I was not at that board meeting though so I can only speculate as to their motives and lord only knows they have done some strange things in the past .

the problem with leves is :

    Limited

    Repetitive

No different than grinding on your own......

Time consuming ,get the leve, go to crystal , activate , go to the mob zone , kill it......at least there is a portal to go back to camp..............but anyway u are going to use anima to go back to the city.....so meh........

after u have done your leves , if u want to continue leveling you grind.......mobs , or wait for behest.......but beheest are like leves .........

in the end FFXIV is boring ppl to death

    Problem:

    -repetition

    Solution:

    -randomization
-more layers on top of the existing foundation

    It's so incredibly simple.

Honestly, even if they randomized the mobs spawned or something, it would still be repetitive.
It's hard to describe, but... Even with all the variations, Leves feel a lot more repetitive than
good old party grinding for hours in Altepa Desert.
    Or the Dunes.

yeah i'll take good ol grinding ffxi style over any leves or behest. fact i'm praying they do some changes that make it so. only other thing i'd like to see is something just as good as campgaign battles as a grind that is as good as regular grinding.

i miss the dunes lol, i loved dunes when ffxi launched and for years after and i was really looking forward to dunes-2 or something to that extent.

Hahahahaha!!! Me too. You know, the Dunes was just... THE DUNES. Everyone had to pass through THE DUNES. It was a given. Just as were noobs pulling ghouls into an exp party. And dying. And some WAR/WHM noob trying to help by curing the victim. And dying. And just when you thought things had settled down, someone would bring along a train of... ghouls.

Balance the leves and increase their difficulty, increase the rewards for higher difficulties. Add more variety.

Exactly! My opinion on leves is that they shouldn't have been the backbone of leveling. They should have been 'dailies' to fill in the SP gaps and to keep gil flowing. The reason they are boring is the same reason that grinding is boring. The same reason that people get sick of doing their dailies in WoW. Nobody wants to do the same thing over and over forever. And to make them the primary method of leveling was a mistake, IMO.

Actually, I'd rather see this setup:

    * Main method of leveling: Story-rich quest-based leveling
    * Alternative methods: Instanced dungeon parties, leves

And then I guess if you really like, you can resort to good old-fashioned grinding. But grinding random monsters as a method of leveling is archaic and personally holds no appeal for me. I only do it in MMOs when it's necessary for rep grinding or farming.

There are some people in this community that have an odd knee-jerk reaction to quest-based leveling, because they somehow think it will create an environment that is purely for soloing.

What if FFXIV gave us of a mix of the above methods and implemented a little bit of everything? Some quests, some dungeons, some leves, some grinding. All things that allow for solo or party play, however you wish, instead of forcing people to do it a certain way? That way the solo players and the party players are both happy.

If we could take some of the focus off the leves by beefing up the sidequests and upcoming quest hubs so that they reward some exp, and (hopefully) the upcoming instanced dungeons will also reward decent exp, this would give us so much more variety and a much more rewarding experience.
