    Oh boy.

Mind you, the official presentation says they "Broke though" 600k, beating FFXI's peak. It didn't say by how much.

edit: Lol, Pandastirfry beat me to it.

You forgot "for those that spend several tens of hours a week grinding", which represent a vast minority in the MMORPG user base and are pretty much inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. There's tons of people that still didn't get a single job to 50, let alone running out of content.

Naysayers aside, this is good news and I, for one, am glad to see it. Let us hope that XIV also does as XI did and maintain these numbers so that we can see the world of Hydaelyn grow and evolve as XI did.

I think the main disadvantage for 2.1 will be the fact that Crystal Tower precedes Coil in terms of difficulty and item drops. This only affects the very small minority of hardcore players I think, but I think SE will still lose some subscriptions until 2.2 unless there's some other things that will keep them playing. (Housing, PvP, new dungeons, new quests)

I don't think it affects them that much. There are a lot of coils players that are running around with only myth/philo pieces. Having another source of gear is good for everybody. Even moreso for players who go to the raids as a class that is not their preferred class.

    Example:

    favorite class: warrior
raid group already has two paladins as tanks and wont take my warrior to the raids so I take my conjurer there. I gear said conjurer with myth and drops since it is what I'm taking to the raid. I want to gear up my warrior with something else than philo gear. Crystal tower!

600000 X 12.99 = 7794000 USD per month, please use some of that to fix the lag.

The only thing the article says is that SE confirmed that it's doing better than XI.

I heard about this Abyesea thing that put the nail on that games coffin. Of course it's going to do better.
They killed it. I wish I was old enough to try and play FFXI back then. I wonder how fun it was back in 2000 lol.

Try reading the article, it's right in the title. Jesus.

FFXIV has sold ~1.5m units as of Sept 30th (and likely more now), but has 600k current subscribers. That means more than half of the people that bought game, are no longer playing it. That said, 600k is still a good number and above SE's expectations, which pleases the executives to keep wanting to put money into the game.

It was good for it's time but not something I want to do again. A good example of what it's like? Do you enjoy having a full party killing one mob at a time for 8-12 hours a day with several hours of experience loss upon death?

The article is outdated. This same information was posted by other sites on september 30th. We had another article in late october about how final fantasy gained another 500,000 players. Recent articles have all been sporting "1.5 million accounts." This article is using September information when it's currently november. Note, 600,000 is still good even if I'm wrong.
