The dungeons in WoW isn't really something you should compare to, if you want to avoid bias. They had a base history to begin with that's why, ever since the original Warcraft almost 20yrs ago. Working from a games established history (the RTS games, board games, novels, etc) is a lot more simple to create a new game's history/story from than something that doesn't really have that to begin with. Working on ARR from 1.0 really didn't help as much due to the fact that it didn't have time to really establish itself.

FATEs in dungeons, while an interesting concept, would really just be the same as some sort of generic event occurring. Further exploration to be done by those who choose to take part in it. It just shouldn't be something "mandatory". By that, I mean that it shouldn't be something that you'd come across naturally progressing through the dungeons. This is so that people don't complain that groups are basically "forced" to do them, since it's just dangling in front of them. You'd basically need to take a small detour to get to them.
