The problem is the gear treadmill. Soon the DL sets will be considered outdated and gimped and you are off to the next gear rat race, it's getting the next tier of gears or no bueno pretty much. The core game for first timer is amazing, from 1-50 full of new discovery and new interesting things. Then you hit level 50, and that was it for exploration and discovery. Now you are stuck at WP + AK, then your AF and primals, then off to Coil. They should have make Praetorium and CM drop 40 mythology tomes as well to give people 4 ways to get tomes.....

No offense, but the 'gear treadmill' is true in just about every MMO. Whatever game you are in, or whatever expansion drops, the gear you have will be outdated and useless (sooner or later), and then you have to start from scratch; this is the sole reason I chose gil as a quest reward for over 95% of my quests - if I wanted gear, I received it in a dungeon, or picked it up cheap on the market board. About one of the only games where this isn't true is EVE Online... and that's because there is a purpose for just about every hull, every module, regardless of your total skill points.

Yes, the game will get more interesting with time

I srsly not sure if your ranting or being a troll. I would play it safe and say your ranting out of respect to the discussion because you very well seem to understand the game and now your way around it yet you lack the understanding how it's designed and why.

It srsly is a MMO and it should be about your friends and making more friends.

Please, have faith in not the game but your friends. Talk with you LS, organize FC runs and try to make it interesting because a lot of what you do alone/ solo isn't always going to be fun or interesting. SOLO IS BORING and if that's all your going to do, you'll die of boredom.

Believe me when I tell you, I'm a FFXI and FFXIV 1.0 vet and the emotions SE had evoked from me totally made the game worth it. That and the interactions with all types of players.
There's aspect of FFXI and XIV-1.0 that should be in ARR and vise-versa, this is what should be looked into.

SE has 11 years of experience with MMOs already plus the time with XIV, they should have it all together. The world is diverse and complicated but there's no solid formula how to please everyone but only to keep the MMO system and design flexible.

It sounds like your definition of ranting and a troll are the same thing. Whatever the case may be, it's really not hard to understand how the game was developed. In a nutshell, the original XIV was grossly terrible, and SE had to scramble to overhaul it to save face. In fact, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada is quoted for saying that the Final Fantasy franchise has been "greatly damaged" by it. I am also aware of the input from the player base during the Beta and Legacy phases.

Yes, MMOs should be about friends and making more friends, but tell me... just how long are your friends going to keep playing together if server lag is a significant issue and you are forced to play the same thing over and over again? True, other MMOs are virtually just that - the same dungeons over and over again, but they also had a ton of mini-stories that often connected with other mini-stories across several expansions. Yes - the game is but a few months old, but I'd like you tell me what is there to truly offer? What are some of your pros and cons?

In terms of getting a larger audience:
Pros: Familiar game mechanics(at least for new FF-players)

    Cons: Predictable

I'd be bias to say FFXI was the best MMO I ever played. It felt like being in another world without limits or restrictions. It felt organic.

Pros: ARR has scenery and personality

Cons: Feels restricted and relatively small(with hopes for new zones)

Friends will come and go but the ones that stay will form memories and that is priceless:
