I have to agree. The world looks great, but feel small 1.0 was much bigger you really need a chococo bk then. The expansion will help with that.

This is the direction they are taking the game in, which is a MISTAKE!! Catering to easy mode is just ruining games like this. You know the first trip from one the main cities to Jeuno was quite an arduous one. Everyone remembers it. There is nothing like that in this game; It's a joke. Where are the people shouting for Escorts to a place? None, because the game is too easy. There should be Invisible and sneak mobs and elemental weakness/resist attributes to mobs, but it's ALL the same. All mobs take the same damage and can be avoided the same way. There are at least some sight/sound mobs in ARR, but it's still not good enough. Should have made teleport WHM only and Return BLM only. That would at least add some variety. To put into perspective how hard some of these mobs should be that are in the way to your next destination, they should take out near 1/2 of your health if they are 5-10 levels above you, and 3/4 or more if more than 10+ levels. And they should make mobs follow you like a tonberry stalker until you exit the zone if you aggro them, but at your speed! That would make this game interesting. No more speeding through ****. There are 5 mobs clumped up in your path that are 5 levels above you. What do you do? You better have a mage friend or sub abilities to cast sneak or invisible.I miss the feeling of FFXI. I remember it being actually difficult to get from city to city. I feel like teleporting and returning makes the game feel too small. It's too easy to do. I mean I guess it would annoy the more casual players but I liked how big FFXI felt. I liked how it actually felt like a trip getting from one place to another. There were parts where you actually had to wait for dangerous mobs to turn the other way so you could sneak past. Now you can just hop on your easily obtained chocobo and run past things that are 20 levels higher than you.
There's no chance to make the community embrace each other when the traveling is not even existent and raiding is the only place to help each other out, and crafting. It is all PUGs and Raid this Raid that, teleport dungeon this, DF EVERYTHING, meld this, give me food, no running, just teleport, DF EVERYTHING... (DF makes the community worse, a completely different topic). That is it. No one shouts for help me get to somewhere or help me travel somewhere... the magic is gone.
TLDR: SE if you are reading this, it behooves you to make FFXI 2.0. End rant. I guarantee you the community would become a better place as well.

So much this. Every single new mmorpg I've been playing recently has been like this!Thank you. For me, like I said in a thread sometime earlier, the biggest problem isn't necessarily the size of the zones, but the fact that there are settlements everywhere.
Don't get me wrong - I totally love love the sense of life and population they've finally given Eorzea, and the variety in looks of these. The zones actually look interesting and good now!
But...
There are houses and NPCs, basically EVERYWHERE. Where's the wilderness? Where are the open fields the adventurers should roam?
What is the point of having good looking settlements to return to, when you never feel you left them in the first place? There's no sense of adventure, no getting lost, just outpost after outpost and linear questing. Lotro used to have some incredible zones and dungeons but it's being streamlined more and more. Makes me sad.
Well,we're on vanilla i don't expect anything BIG or explorable.I'm the only one here that thinks that the devs wanted to test players behaviour with this "casual/easy" content?.Something is telling me that this game is going to change alot when the 1st expansion comes out.
Occam's razor, Uki. If you put faith aside, you'll see that testing players is the last thing Square Enix is concerned about. They are just human employees of a company which took a vertiginous tumble in its market value. Their main, if not only concern, is popularity and retention figures of the game.
That said, the world is smaller because it has all been remade from scratch to dispel the complaints about "copy-pasted" areas and "not enough variety". Now we have said "variety", but obviously smaller areas to make up for the development cost. I'm somewhat convinced it is their development model to be flawed, but factually, this is the situation.
I do find it absolutely hilarious that the Quarrymill Aetheryte and the Hawthorne Hut Aetheryte are like 10 seconds away from each other.
Teleport crystals used to actually mean needing to tele a distance away. Now its like faster to ride your choco. Makes no sense.
I didn't think it was small at 1st but now I am max level and don't have as much to do it does feel very small.
For the players who play to do endgame raids only, it's my guess it doesn't matter. But for me, who play more for the sense of exploration and the journey as a whole, it falls a bit flat. This morning I thought: "Yay, Saturday! I've got time to play XIV. Hmm, what will I do ingame today...? Just got my BLM soul, just got that GC promotion, now I have to save up another 8000 seals for the barding... still 20 lvls to lvl 50..."So much this. Preferably I'd like to keep traveling around doing quests, fates etc on the go to keep leveling up. But I didn't really feel like it, and in the end it comes down to not 'feeling' the scale of the world. Maybe this makes me sound picky, and some probably don't even understand what I'm saying.
I ended up crafting. :I
I totally agree! I actually only used teleport 4 times since i started playing and that was beta phase 4. I have used return to finish up quests faster just before sleep though. But i try not to use them and prefer to run. But also i agree with it's too easy to get around and there is almost no danger when you're on a mount. Enemies are so slow, even sprint blows them away.I miss the feeling of FFXI. I remember it being actually difficult to get from city to city. The world feels like a tiny shoe box that 1000 people are living in, all trying to do the same things. Everyone is tripping up over each other. I get the impression the world was originally designed to house far less players.
