    The world feels too small.

I feel the world is too small. Things like mounts don't feel needed because everything can be walked to so quickly. I would like to see more open fields and secret areas like Owl's Nest and Copperbell Mines and all those underground caves and dangerous places with level 90 mobs that used to make it fun to explore.

For example, Sagolii Desert should be much bigger and more vast. They just tucked it down at the bottom of an instanced area. It looks great, but it only takes a minute to walk from one end to the other. A desert like that should be the size of an entire area.

Below are maps of how big 1.0 was and how big areas in 2.0 are

I'd say Coerthas is the biggest offender here, they even still have Griffin Crossing there, but it's closed. Guess they'll open it in 1st expansion, it's supposed to make Ishgard available as well.

I agree wholeheartedly. Instanced zones I'm fine with, but Squee should take advantage of the fact that each zone is instanced and make them big. The whole "everything is canyons and tunnels" thing really, really bothers me.

You would have loved 1.0 Black Shroud then!

Being a gatherer, hoping from zone to zone on a mount, saving money over time, I think the maps are plenty big.

/joke "A walk cycle makes these maps a lot larger than they appear to be."
/joke "Get off your high horse."
If you aren't laughing at the jokes, I apologize if this wasn't funny or uncalled for.

I miss the feeling of FFXI. I remember it being actually difficult to get from city to city. I feel like teleporting and returning makes the game feel too small. It's too easy to do. I mean I guess it would annoy the more casual players but I liked how big FFXI felt. I liked how it actually felt like a trip getting from one place to another. There were parts where you actually had to wait for dangerous mobs to turn the other way so you could sneak past. Now you can just hop on your easily obtained chocobo and run past things that are 20 levels higher than you.

Thank you. For me, like I said in a thread sometime earlier, the biggest problem isn't necessarily the size of the zones, but the fact that there are settlements everywhere.
Don't get me wrong - I totally love love the sense of life and population they've finally given Eorzea, and the variety in looks of these. The zones actually look interesting and good now!

    But...

There are houses and NPCs, basically EVERYWHERE. Where's the wilderness? Where are the open fields the adventurers should roam?

What is the point of having good looking settlements to return to, when you never feel you left them in the first place?

I can say that having tried to FATE farm on lower levels with no mount, you do need it but only because everyone else has one. Getting to a FATE just to watch it end is common.

Instances are extreme in the extreme at times.

The Scions of the seventh Dawn screams out at me.

    Instance in
    A hall, walk 2 seconds
Instance in to the main room.

What up wit da hall? Really? You needed an instance in to that??? There's nothing there. Nothing, zilch, zip, nadda. Nothing.

Happens in other places too, that one really screamed at me though.

    One more thing:
I didn't really play FFXI. I tried it for a little while, about a year ago (so I was really late to the party). Didn't work for me, with me being used to the newer MMOs.
But even from that tiny amount of playtime, the feeling of traversing Gustaberg is still stuck as one of my better gaming memories. Partly because of the music, which I loved - it set that haunting feeling of a huge open field spot on. And Gustaberg was huge, especially with practically no means of transportation or teleportation. Personally I missed my chocobo there. :P

Anyway, my point is that XIV could need a few fields like that. Especially since we have all our mounts and Aetherytes already.

Would love a larger world map, but without restrictions to character movement it will continue to feel small, we have a decently "Medium" size for the zones but the actual usefullness and reasons to not just skip it and teleport far outweigh any reason to not just skip.

They made teleportation available too early, but the whole game was too fast to begin with players should have at least had around a month to wander around the land before they could just teleport where they want to be. It would have at least givin players a sense of scale for a while and new expansions should be the same make teleportation rights difficult to obtain so you at least feel accomplished once you get them.

But I'll just digress and wait for people to attack me for trying to "Waste their precious time"

...you know waste their time they spend playing a video game genre designed to do just that.
