Not Liking the Mandatory Main Quest

Big fan of Final Fantasy but I'm starting to find the main scenario quests boring and tedious. I'm level 30 and it seems that most of the quests consist of talk to this person, talk to that person, interact with an object, maybe fight 2-3 enemies, talk to someone, teleport, talk to another person...

Whats worse is you have to constantly travel across the globe to talk to this person, just to travel back 10 seconds later.

This comic really describes how I feel:

Thoughts on this? I don't mind questing but the mandatory questing is...a pain.

I hit a rut around 30. Does get annoying. But the quests get better. But you'll always have to run around for the main story quests. That doesn't change.

It will get better, trust me, there will be very important shit going on soon, storyline-wise, and the last instances dungeons for the Story are awesome. Just don't run em with speed-runners.

That's my problem...The story seems interesting at part but at other parts seems fine. Now that I've skipped through over a third of it I'm not sure I'll even understand the rest.

Yup, there's a lot of filler between major plot points, which does gets tedious after a while. Apparently saving Eorzea can wait while we fetch cheese and wine.

Totally agree on this. I find the story as a whole poorly executed to be honest. It did get better starting around 44, but there was just too much "fetch quest" bloat for me to enjoy it. I'd prefer a shorter storyline over this artificially stretched quest train.

    Agree'd.
Game starts rolling around 40. Last 10 levels are fun. The final dungeons were super fun with 8 peoples.

Isn't this like, every Final Fantasy game ever?

The story starts out kinda slow, but after you get out of Coerthas it will really pick up. Just stick with it and it'll all come together eventually.

Not just Final Fantasy, a lot of RPG games have sidequests that have no direct involvement with the main story but need to be done in order to progress.
At least they are somewhat rewarding in the form of experience points, gil and occasionally a useful item here and there, so I don't really mind fetching some cheese and wine to loosen some tongues.

There's a joke in there somewhere, but I'll refrain this time. :P
