to be perfectly honest, ff11 made massive, and sweeping changes to the battle system and the game content in way less time. they had updates every two weeks for awhile, with actual real fixes, they increased the cap multiple times, while the game started with 6 jobs, and a few zones, they had advanced jobs and jeuno within like 4 months tops

you can lol at all the changes and fails, but look how many and how fast the game was changing, look at how they increased content, notice how the game had an expansion announced 6 months in, notice how by 9 months that expansion was realeased.
By the time 10 months passed in ffxi, they had 9 new jobs more than 44 new/expanded zones, they heavily modified and rebalanced battle/skills. Level cap increased from 50 to 65. They added new content and new main mission arc with zilart. We have gotten practically nothing since release to now. FFXI was moving at light years compared to this game. They can talk about battle system adjustments, but going by these notes, battle system in FFXI changed way more drastically that what they are talking about adding (that half the people dont really want, or care that much about) in a lot less time. and, while it was going on, they were still getting new jobs, new content, new missions, new quests.
The only positive i would say we have over them, is not being charged for a longer period. But make no mistake, the game has only been barely tweaked, the actual meat of the game is exactly the same as on release. The it takes time excuse, is really bull, it does take time, but FFXI moved faster, and almost any other developer has moved faster, even with a skeleton teams. The only way this will all make sense is if they have a super magic patch with an insane amount of content, but seeing how battle is the only adjustment planned till september, the aniversary month) you can be sure that even in a years time, this game will have virtually no new content, and basically be where ffxi was at 3 or 4 months in.
