I heard a security token should work, but idk i have never had this problem cause i just simply went in and changed my ip to static. That would most likely be the simplest fix.

They are talking about their ISP's assigned IP not their local network IP, you can't just change your ISP's IP to static if you have a dynamic IP.
External IP addresses are controlled by ISPs, not users.
I play from two locations in two diferent cities, on two different laptops as I frequently travel between these two locations. I have a security token. At my farm, i turn my modem off at night when i'm not using it (old habit) and the one at the house is never really turned off, unless a power failure hits.
From these two locations, i have never been prompted to reset/change my pword (although i do change it on my own once in a blue moon).
When i first started played from the house, i dreaded the expected email flag of account being accessed from a diferent city....newp. Never got one. Dunno why. It's also like this when I played ff11 for the past 11ish years. Never got any email either.
This is getting silly. I have not been able to track down what exactly triggers this, because it doesn't happen all the time. I really can't figure out what the problem is. It doesn't seem to be related to dynamic IPs per se, because it doesn't trigger all the time.
I thought that maybe it had something to do with your ISP using several different subnets for dynamic IPs, and you get flagged if you get switched between them (because they "look different"). Then again, I used my work VPN the other day to try out whether it helps with the massive lag spikes I get every other day (different topic...), so I can be sure that I used a completely different IP at that point... and it didn't trigger.
The whole system is quite opaque. If they at least gave you a way to review the steps that lead to the IP block... like showing you which IPs triggered the suspension... that would be a step to figure out what you can do to prevent it.
Or, you know, just use GeoIP.
At the moment, the thing is just ridiculously overzealous.
And yes, I've been thinking about just installing the android authenticator, but after reading reviews on how bug-ridden it is, resetting on a whim and then completely locking you out of your account... I think I'll pass for the time being.
I would attempt the authenticator. I don't exactly understand why some people have said it will lock you out of your account. I've never heard of the iOS version doing this. Regardless, you are given a emergency removal code when you are sign up. Take a screenshot of it, or save the page to disk so in case something does go wrong, you can regain access to your account.
