Funny Stories from 1.0

I've been feeling a little nostalgic lately so I decided to go watch some videos of my 1.0 escapades and started noticing some funny things I had forgotten about.

While watching I figured "Hey, why not share some funny stores on the forums." since we seem to have a lot of negativity going on around here and something to lighten the mood could do some good.

I also happen to enjoy a good story involving humor or those times when you're convinced everything is going all wrong only to have something completely amazing happen in the end.

So post up, be it a funny story from your time in 1.0 or your current time in 2.0.
(I'll be focusing on 1.0 myself.)

I found a couple videos titled "Christmas Event 2011" and figured I'd watch just for the lovely music that plays in town while these fun times are present.

I'll admit, I completely forgot about that "one Christmas tree" in Ul'dah that could completely destroy your graphics card if you stood inside it, lol.
I remember my first GTX 570 getting completely wrecked at 109C when I wandered inside it. Holy crap at the lag inside that thing, it was like a Venus flytrap where you couldn't get out of it before it either crashed your game or destroyed your card. @_@

Every Linkshell in 1.0 seemed to have a favorite "hang" inside of Ul'dah. Mine was just in front of the Adventurer's Guild down by the fountain on the Gungnir server.

When the "end of days" hit us I remembering all of us logging in at the same time to fight the monsters invading the cities!...
We all ended up dead within about .5 seconds of logging in thanks to that being the monsters' favorite hangout spot as well apparently.
Nothing like taking about 50 Cyclops clubs to the face all at once, lol.

I get the feeling I'll be the only one doing the story telling but... here's another!

/snowball emote!

This was extremely fun to mess around with.
One time, a group of people from my linkshell were standing around waiting for the timer to cool down for a Good King Moogle Mog fight, when suddenly, a rival linkshell showed up to wait around with us.

We were standing with the moogles, they were standing off near the sub-aether... It was almost like we were having a showdown.

Suddenly, a Roegadyn from the opposing linkshell did a /snowball emote on me, and I did a /stagger back (this was actually pretty instinctual).
That was it, /snowball emotes started flying everywhere as our two linkshells charged in for the right to stand by the moogles!

We all ended up standing near the moogles together eventually, but it was a pretty spontaneous moment and one I love...
Unfortunately, I accidentally hit my recording button after the first snowball was thrown in my haste to type the /stagger emote... so it is highly unlikely anyone will see this video unless the other team had some one recording. =(

Rexus, if you're reading this, ask around, lol.

Here's another story! (I'm not sure if anyone bothers to read them but I figured it's something to do if you're bored on the forums.)


Towards the end of version 1.0 I was attempting to visit every unique place there was in Eorzea, which usually meant passing a lot of high level monsters (60-99) in tightly packed corridors.

The worst one was attempting to get to the Gelmorra Ruins via the sub-aetheryte at Lasthold inside the Black Shroud.
Both the second to last and last corridors were packed with high level Hogs and Raptors that each had ranged attacks that could hit me for more HP than I actually had... the raptors also ran as fast as my Chocobo.
Spending hours there trying and trying and TRYING to get past them was agony, not to mention my anima was being depleted with each attempt.

Finally! After about 7 hours (no joke) of attempting to pass the monsters I manged to reach the Ruins!
Unfortunately, I forgot about the level 99 Malboro just out of sight around the last corner... he didn't have a ranged attack, but I was so happy that I had managed to get through the "kill-zone" that I stopped moving on the other side.
Boy was that a quick death...

An hour later and I managed to get through again. I still aggroed the Malboro though, and I spent the next 10 minutes running him around Gelmorra's inner ring before he finally left me alone, lol.
He got me again later when I attempted to go north of Gelmorra to Proud Creek... oh well, try try again.

I want my level 99 Malboro back. Seriously. Upgrade the open world SE, please.

Your exploration story is awesome, Kittra I hope they add more secluded, hard to explore, and interesting places in future patches and expansions. The beastlands they have now are sorta cool, and usually very beautiful, but they're too easy to run through and kinda empty/devoid of meaning.

Yes! I really hope they bring snowballs back this year!

Once there was a line of Lalafell sitting down along a bench and people suddenly started throwing snowballs at them like a shooting gallery. Then a barely clothed highlander in a reindeer cap walks behind them and does his /pose, and suddenly about 30 people were throwing snowballs at him until he ran away. It was hilarious!
