I grew up on pen-and-paper RPGs and still recall the days of having to draw out maps of dungeons for Wizardry games, in the late 80's and early 90s, and sometimes a single dungeon would take up over a dozen pieces of paper. I've done my fair share of learning from trial and error, but the truth is... We no longer live in those days.

The demographics changed over the years and things have become more user friendly for players because a lot of the players (i.e. the working man) don't have the time to go exploring every nook and cranny to find out how the hell he is supposed to go from Point A to Point B. As for me, my memory is just bad. I was never good with dates in History class when growing up, birthdays, and stuff like that. I'm sorry, but if you're going to start complaining about something like this, then I'll just have to give you the counter-argument of:

Well, why are you using a computer to communicate? Why not write letters? Forget e-mail and online communication, forget calculators as well. Just use your own intelligence to solve every problem rather than dependable tools.

However... Saying all of that wouldn't be very fair to you. We live in an era where we can access pretty much anything with the click of a button and I see absolutely no downside to them adding a simple feature such as this. It's not as if it would make you any less independent. If you can memorize every single detail in the game, that's great... Just please don't expect everyone else to and more importantly... Don't hold it against them if they can't.

Your trying to strawman me with a weaker point.

I use a computer because it can do things that I am utterly unable to do myself, I can not instantaniously mail a letter and receive a response through the mail. Your dumbing the argument down for your own purposes, we COULD go around playing this game all day until I say that you shouldn't have to use those lungs in your body to assimilate oxygen but we all know that's just petty.

So let's get the the meat of your point.

I forget where I'm going all the time, but the game allready provides me with ALL the information I need, all it takes is some effort on the players part to obtain that information even if they forget it. Your running down a slippery slope of "Optimization" that many companies fall into the pitfall of all the time. Streamlining too much can often lead to unforseen consequences and when in the realm of playing a video game it often leads to homogony and disconect being the two largest things that stick out like a sore thumb.

Let's take a look at what would happen if we "Simplified" some more game mechanics down to the way that the most forgetfull and disorganized person could do it.

-Battle begins, the game highlights the optimal weapon rotation for your character to use.
-Crafting begins, the game tells you exactly what to do for you to get a high quallity item.
-You want to gather ____ item so the game marks on your map exactly where to go instead of just the area, nodes are no longer required to be hit first to find what item lies in what spot.

The point is that all the above things I mentioned are all obtainable by the player using the current mechanics and all it requires is effort on the users part until they either memorize them or continue to use game tools to find this information. There is no "Shame" or "Disrespect" for forgetfull people, hell I get lost all the time I don't however bemoan the game for somehow not making it easier for me to do something because...

When the game does everything for me...am I even playing at that point?

I'm sure we are all getting a bit into the realm of hyperbole, but my point is that running down that slippery slope doesn't always make things more "Fun" it can often make them more robotic and disconecting than they could have been. New systems and UI are always exciting as long as they are adding something to the users experience not taking away from it. The most simple things can be the things you end up missing when they are gone.

I don't think that everyone would enjoy the way I would like the game to be so I don't say it as a "Matter of fact" thing, but I DO see downsides to adding so much information because one things leads to another...

For the love of god don't give me the "I'm a working adult with adult things to do I don't got time for games!" excuse either (Well you allready did)

I and many of the players who share my opinion (From personal experience of my friends within the game) tend to lead rather busy lives outside the game world and it's refreshing to find a game that treats itself like a game instead of like more work. I get enough information overload at work, sometimes people want a sandbox where they can play, make mistakes, and learn things on their own. So for the love of god don't try and generalize the "Working man" you can't and never will speak for anyone besides yourself.

Your taking a lazy argument and making it worse when you try and back yourself up with "I that everyone else thinks the way I do man."

I only speak for myself, I may know other people who share my opinion but even then I can't speak on their behalf. I only mentioned the people above to counterpoint that the "Working man" doesn't have time to play a in depth game that involves a time investment and god forbid EFFORT on their behalf, because it's just not true.

Speak for yourself, don't try and pump yourself up with fake and inflated "that group of people" comments. Your above it and I know it. You have a powerfull point that the game should be more accessable for everyone. Make the point yourself, I may not agree with it and refute my reasons but that's why we are here isn't it? Not to make digs at eachother but to discuss the game and it's direction, how we feel it should grow.

    What I find fun

    What you find fun

It's a great thing being able to hash things out with people with like interests but differing opinions we grow ourselves and our opinions based off the feedback of others, without being able to look objectively we will never see or think that anyone could ever think things differently than we do.

I try to never scoff at someone because their opinion differs from mine, I always think to one simple fact.

"Once upon a time people knew for a fact that the earth was flat, someone didn't agree with them and at the end of the day low and behold that crazy guy was right all along."

I have some bad news for you: Developers will always want to make a UI as friendly as possible because that alone can attract or apart people from their product. If a game is going to be challenging, it should be challenging because the game content is challenging.

    Back to the thread:

Atm, most of the times I need to open the map and check what area I need to teleport.

If they added the name of the zone next to the place's names like for example this: "Quarramyll (East Shroud)", that would help a lot. However, that idea of a map where you can click your destiny, is how it should actually be though.

And why not? Users interfaces need to make life as easy as possible. After all we came here to play, not to learn, work, or struggle with a UI.
