Note. I am not a Final Fantasy Fanboy. I'm a realist. I didn't play FF12. I didn't play FF13. I didn't play 1.0 FF14. Why? IMO none of these were good games. FF14 is different. It's good enough to play and sub too. It still has more content than most mmo's out there. We also have a good idea what's coming in 2.1 and 2.2. These updates have far more in them than most mmo's updates.

Stop right there that is COMPLETELY false!

they did not remake the game from ground up. 95% of the current content cities, mobs, lore story line....etc existed and received a face lift for graphics and code change for interaction. this is not what you are trying to imply because what takes those years to do was already there and reused.

they did make some big changes in how the entire game functions but the most time consuming content already existed.

You.. have no idea how much changing coding, graphics, and even all the gameplay mechanics do you? Even the story was different so that means hiring new writers. The way zones worked were different and even zone layouts have changed in certain areas to certain degrees. How the very game functions was almost entirely changed. You know how long it takes to make an mmo from the ground up? Usually around 8 years for a good one. 3 years for a facelift? That sounds about right.
guess a few years of working with 3D graphics might give me some clue what takes time and what doesn't. this is a facelift they decided to make the game a post 50 game but forgot to make the post 50 content because it didn't exist yet and they couldn't quickly alter it like all the other content was. lots of things you will think take forever to do are done in no time at all because software has come a long long way even in the last 10 years. having the primary building blocks already in place makes it 100 times easier to blast it out in a shorter time. the biggest waste of time would have been following the legacy players requests (having to alter plans to fit some random requests can create serious loss of time)
