Nope, there isn't. But good luck getting any response from the folk here other than "You must suck if you can't complete an instance within the timer." That's the point. The timers are completely necessary. They don't introduce a challenge, only hassle when something unexpected comes up. >_< I had a thread on this matter in the beta forums that got a few hundred likes, but most of the thread was trolled by those kinds of people.
Pretty much this. The time limit won't prevent a similar incident from happening, but at least SE can say they tried. It's really no different from those ridiculous age verification things many media sites have.
