Oooh awesome. Is there a way to travel to other places too? Or am I staying in Gridania or where ever for the entire game?

You'll get to go to the other cities at level 14 in the Main Scenario quests, and be granted permanent rights to the airships between them. In fact, the Main Scenario *requires* you to go to the other cities at that point. And, of course, the other cities have their own Aetherytes, so you can attune to them and get teleport rights, as well. If you keep at this game, the Main Scenario will eventually take you just about *everywhere* in Eorzea.
Cool! So I'd be able to play with others who start in other places too. That's pretty awesome. My husband and I play together but we started in the same place just in case, haha. This game seems pretty cool already. Thanks for the help. You'll get to go to the other cities at level 14 in the Main Scenario quests, and be granted permanent rights to the airships between them. What's the level cap though? How hard is it to level and get gear?

Level cap is 50. Levelling is not hard at all, and can be particularly fast if you participate in a lot of pop-up battles known as "FATEs" (for "Full Active Time Event"). There are number of other options for gaining XP as well, including the quests, the levequests (which the Main Scenario will unlock for you at 10), the hunting log (which your level 10 class quest will unlock), guildhests (which you can unlock right after you unlock levequests), and instanced dungeons (you'll unlock the first one on level 15 in the Main Scenario when it sends you to Sastasha). Your level 10 Main Scenario quest will also unlock the Recommendation List, which will show you all of those options currently available to your character in your current zone. Gear is handed out fairly liberally by the quests (causing some grumbling from the crafters, who would rather you buy what they make), and can be bought from both NPCs and from other PCs on the Market Board, as well as earned in rewards from dungeons and obtained from your Grand Company quartermaster (you'll join a Grand Company at level 20 in the Main Scenario). Your job quests at 45 and 50 will give you your AF gear, which gets you set for the endgame (where your first task will be upgrading from it, though).Cool! Good sites for researching information are the Lodestone, Square-Enix's official support site, and the fan-run wikis Gamer's Escape and XIVDB.
