Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q & A Updates
edit: this is the recent new live letter, for other live interview, you have to search for yourself, they are way back
Q: When will individual housing be implemented?
A: It will be around half a year after patch 2.1’s release.
Q: Can you expand to an M size or L size house from a S size house?
A: You won’t be able to make changes like this when it is built. You will have to build a new one on open land.
Q: Will we be able to sell our houses (including the furniture)?
A: No, you will only be able to sell the land rights.
Q: What happens when you have a house and you disband your free company?
A: Unless you abandon your house you cannot disband a free company.
this is why you could not just make your own fc to have a house other then the cost.
Q: What are the requirements you need to fulfill to have a house?
A: You will have to increase the rank of your free company.

Just for your information, they are pushing individual player housing bad because first they want to test how their servers behave with guild housing.
I have many complains for SE on how they are doing things, probably more than gratitude, however this sounds like a pretty reasonable strategy to me, or do you prefer a daily maintenance, on top of lag and server crashes every hour? It is hard to simulate new complicated environments like this, so having a previous limited test is good, it's the same as if they said "housing in half a year until now", just be happy they're releasing an early limited guild version.
I think housing price is bad news specially for crafters. It is really difficult to sell anything at good prices these days. To me it seems people are trying to save money for housing. The only way to make good money these days is by either selling items you buy using tomes or by selling materia. I am really very woried if I will ever own a house ><.
This game is becoming a souce of stress to me ><.
I think I need a break ^^;
This was something I remember being mentioned before 1.0 came out :/ (source: http://web.archive.org/web/201010010...event-coverage )
:/
~Note to self: Stop logging out in silly hats~
I understood that FC housing was first up and Individual Housing was always sold as 'later', but then announcing later meaning half a year after the release of 2.1 is kind of a big tease. Kinda like putting a carrot on the end of a 20 foot pole and expecting us to stare at it the entire time.
I get the strategy behind it, they are testing the waters by creating a 'funnel' to the addition. Taking the entire playerbase and placing it into large blocks to see how it goes before letting them run free. It's kinda of a style to them that I have begun to understand in the past few hotfixes, being that they tend to observe effects in the most extreme before tailoring it down (gear grind+acquirement/gathering XP/Speedrunning). Their introduction of a Duty Finder rating system is another example what with the complaints about how foul the community can be. Players tend to do things to various levels that nobody can easily anticipate.
SE are pretty darn methodical about this stuff which I guess is from observing numbers and data gathered.
My concern is that this focus on FC housing alone may create a vacuum and cause the collapse of smaller companies in favor of larger ones with a larger possible bank. Watching the videos there is a crazy amount of stuff you can place inside housing, so there is an incentive to get a place as big as possible in order to make use of it all. But I suppose it comes down to how much the largest plots/Houses will cost, and I may be speculating too hard at this point.
Good news for the Titan sellers, I guess.
Please explain the logic behind that... FFXIV is one of very few newly released MMOs to offer housing (in fact it's the ONLY one since LOTRO which made a real mess of it). Rift added dimensions but they're basically customisable space, not housing, and they offer no functionality. There isn't really any other option if you want housing in your MMO at the moment.
They stress tested the housing areas in beta so I don't buy the argument that they need to test them with the FC housing for six whole months before they release them to individual players. Hell why is FC housing ok to be a testing environment in the first place? There is NO reason for them to be restricting housing to FCs only at the moment. There is no difference in functionality or implementation. It's a stupid move and it makes no sense. The only reason I can think of for them to do this is to pad out a later patch by 'releasing' a new feature that is actually just a re-release of old content.
Like the OP said, this is basically a big taunt to everyone that wanted personal housing as there is NO reason tor restrict it.
