Duty Finder wants to wave at you just to remind you of the "good times"
I do personally think SE Are pretty dumb offering FC Content so early and before personal Stuff since really most FC's will be in their infancy, just seems a little backwards to me, but whatever it is SE I'm used to backwards that I can professionally moonwalk!

If you spent a few minutes thinking about it, it makes sense.
Server load is always an issue, and this player housing is instanced. So the more instances the more room they need on their servers. Having an auction and land fees is a good system for SE. It limits how many houses and the number of instances. Like wise, I'm pretty sure there will be a monthly fee as well just in case a FC disappears and they no longer use their land. In which case, the plot will be sold reducing the amount of instances needed.
Once they get a grasp on how the servers will deal with the change they can roll out player housing which will have a great deal more load for the server.
Other games do this, they just don't tell you they're doing it.

The sarcasm flew right over your head hehe.
Anyways on topic. This is something they've said they wanted to do for whatever reasons they want to do it. Seems a bit silly to me to get so bent outta shape about something that will inevitably come to you.

They will have no such fees. Here is the Q and A:
"Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of your land and house?
A: There will not be any other costs like this."
I'd recommend checking the Q&A thread to anyone interested in housing. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...IX-Q-A-Updates

That's cool. Then I wonder what they will do with defunct FC's. The ones that don't disband, and they just kind of sit around. I've been in a few of those. They will have no such fees. Here is the Q and A:

That is a good question. As it stands, I suppose there would just be an empty house in the neighborhood. Would probably just stay there until someone contacted support, and a GM verified that ALL FC members are inactive. Then maybe they'd do something about it. I guess we'll find out. I doubt SE would do anything as long as there were active members though.

A monthly/weekly fee would be annoying. But it would keep the number of instances down, and would be automated requiring less GM involvement. Maybe they expect everything to even out when individual housing is introduced. It's their game, I suppose they can do what makes sense to them. That is a good question. Thanks for the clarification though. I read through the QA but forgot about that part when they mentioned no fees.
