Been having this issue too. I eventually gave up on dodging titan and just moved forward to the center of the stage so he wouldn't blow me off, not exactly the best of fixes when your class is a glass cannon...

It's not just AoE. It's everything. I play in the EU, I understand the servers are in Canada? (sigh).
The server seems dominent to everything. My client cannot move or cast any ability unless the server agrees it... OK, fair enough. But the number of interrupts i've missed on Ifrit HM despite invoking my stun in time is getting silly. I've died a few times being low on health, despite popping my immunity ability (PLD tank).
Getting caught in the AoE is a pain, but there are other more encounter-specific mechanics that are broken too.
It's amazing to me how right WoW got it in terms of ability invocation (most things are preauthorised, and casts are invoked instantly but stopped by the server if it deems that to be invalid - the result? A responsive client).
This is a major issue for casters as their cast does not seem to be interrupted when they run out of AOE area and although they are out from players perspective they are still in and casting from servers perspective so they get hit. this is a major problem for Titan and other fatal aoes.
Luckily i am a DRG, so never really have this problem.
could be lag on your end. I did titan with my roommate yesterday and he swore up and down he was out but kept getting knocked off. On my screen he was slow. I just called out "MOVE!" everytime it targeted him and he didn't see it until after but with coordination we easily beat it. It's lag.
LOL! It's funny everyone immediately thinks titan. I know because I was going to make a post saying the exact same thing. this does need to be looked at. it's not a huge thing, but they should make it a priority for somewhere down the pipeline or they'd be remiss.
When did FF become a DODGE BALL FEST. Every FF game up until now was TURN / BASED mechanics and even though this is a MMO
FFXI did a better job on making you work as a team to beat monsters. This game from 1st dungeon all the way through BC is nothing more than AOE DODGE BALL and seriously when the game is taking everyone out to a dedicated server which is still cross / platform enabled. LAG will be an issue depending on your ISP / PING and i know that my ISP = COMCAST , for fact they Turnicate the speed during certain hours of the day.
I hope they change up some of the game mechanics cause Dodge Ball really makes good players look bad if they have a bad ISP connection.
Found another "trick":
Everytime i do Titan HM, i set my graphics quality to the lowest possible selection AND
disable the setting for limiting FPS.
The game runs with 100+ FPS in my case and dodging is a hell of a lot easier.
Really! Try it out, it makes a huge difference!
Since i found this "trick", i never died on plumes.

This isn't a fix. This isn't even a workaround. When your computer specs are over double the box's recommended specs (not required, but recommended) you shouldn't be forced to play in laptop low in order to dodge AoEs. When you're tanking and run with a healer consistently and she starts casting leeches the second a Morbol starts using Bad Breath because she knows you're going to get hit it's really, really annoying. It's not annoying that she's casting it. It's annoying that it's necessary.Found another "trick":

Uhm... well i gave you a tip. No more no less. This isn't a fix. This isn't even a workaround. It makes the game playable for some people. Thats all.
Sure thing is, SE has to find a solution to this problem. That's beyond debate.
Meanwhile you can do what i suggested.
.
I hope they come up with a solution soon. As an Oceanic player, it's already near impossible to ping lower than ~280 ms to the NA servers (EU is no better), and it's worse when coupled with the fact that everything is so server-dependent.
It doesn't render the game unplayable, but it makes certain fights more frustrating than they should be. Currently stuck at story mode Titan (not even HM), it doesn't even matter that I'm halfway across the map when the hit lands, I'm still knocked off. This is getting annoying really fast.
