So what you're saying is that people who put the work in earlier get to reap the rewards later? Sounds fine to me.

As I mentioned in other threads. It won't sit on them for days. There's only so much land that has plots. There's talk of a small house being around 865,000 gil. With players being able to throw around 500k easy those that don't have that kind of cash won't see a house. These houses will be bought as soon as they hit the market. LolQ: As there are differences in economies from World to World, will the housing costs differ by World?
A: It will be the same for all Worlds. The land for housing will be an auction system, and will start from a high price and over time will become cheaper.
I have no problem with the auction system because it is a reverse auction system. If the land sits on the auction house for days, the price will gradually begin to fall. So it won't be going over the price, it will be going under. Now, you may not see super cheap land for housing at first, but over time once people buy their land you could see it more often.
There won't be any left a couple of weeks later.

What you will see though are people running in and buying up multiple properties (prime spots) then holding them for ransom. Which sucks but...Q: As there are differences in economies from World to World, will the housing costs differ by World?

You seem to be misunderstanding what a reverse auction is. In a reverse auction, the price starts extremely high and goes down over time. For example, let's say the first plot of land costs 100 million gil. If no one buys it, the price will go down to 90 million gil. Then 80. Now 70, ok, the richest FC on the server wants in for 70 million gil. No one else wants it at that price? Ok 60 million, 50 million, etc. until the price goes into your price range. This system allows rich people to have "first dibs" on whichever plot they want but no one will ever be able to "outbid" you on a particular plot of land.
This is the same system they used for player housing in Dragon Quest X (which Yoshi-P was a designer on).
This sort of thing is going to cater more to RMT than they realize. I so much have hard time they are fighting RMT by making more avenues to pressure players into buying gil. You say its virtual no big deal. But wait and see how many people will buy gil. Is there anything we can do to stop this before it starts?

If that is how it works than perhaps the "auction" is not so bad. Like I said the true problem is artificial scarcity. That will be the big killer for housing in this game. I never could buy a house in Aion for example. There were none available and those that were went for a ridiculous sum. In eq2 I can relocate on a whim with no worries.
As for why housing is appealing is it allows players to express their creativity. Check out some of the contests eq2 put on for best house. It similar to playing with legos or erector sets etc as a kid. It is fun to build. Not for everyone of course.
But with their issues with RMT this will pose a problem for them.
This is my concern. Most of us normal players or people in small FC's won't be able to get our hands on a FC house. Why? They'll all be gone within the first few days. Either from people who play the market place really well or those that buy gil. Many of the rich FC's might actually create smaller FC's just to buy land and charge people even more to "Release it."If that is how it works than perhaps the "auction" is not so bad. You know what i find funny in all this....
1. They took money away from people who had millions of gil not too recently blanket bomb style.. K Check.
2. RMT is still very much a problem in the game. Right.. check.
3. They come up with this auction system for housing starting at the highest prices that will slowly go down, alot of people wont be able to afford it off the bat.
4. RMT still has alot of gil.
Anyone NOt see the issue with this once RMT people learn they can easily win the auction?!

They said they would open up new instances for housing as they fill up. The only thing you'd potentially have to worry about is coordinating with another FC to buy houses at around the same time to get in the same housing instance, if that's something you care about.
EDIT: RE: Archeus
You won't have to be worried about RMTs buying/squatting houses because you can't sell them afterwards.
