By able to hop down from ridiculous ledges

    Add immersivity to the game

Bring the game up to standards

Allow for complexity of areas built with platforming elements

Aid in traversibility of regions (and the opposite)

And by opposite I mean it could make other areas more difficult to get to (secret areas)

    Look cool

    Make life more enjoyable

    Make me hate FFXIV less

    Make me pity SE less

    Restore faith in SE

Seems to me like the majority of people who don't want jump are older gamers who want their experience to read more like a book or movie than an interactive experience. The other crowd who does want jump wants to be able to freely interact with the world because they feel it will make the world feel more dynamic.

In my opinion, I think there is a pretty even divide between the typical FFXIV players, breaking it down to its most basic stereotypes there are: long time mmorpg players who see the genre getting "dumbed" down so to speak and enjoy a hardcore, difficult challenge where the learning curve is steep and there is an elite group of people who have spent time researching, playing, and experimenting to be the best. Then there are the people who (stereotypically) are newer to playing mmorpg's and want something that is more of a modern videogame where you can just have fun and jump in quickly.

I think this is why so many of the people who hate the idea of jumping, also hate WoW. They had their glory days with ________ mmorpg and want to build upon that. But like anything, times change.

Also, anyone who pulls the "it's not realistic" card...cmon. I fail to see how people can say it isn't realistic to jump when we have skills where you jump in the air and do a backflip and fire multiple arrows. Stop being so worried that person X might do something that you might not like. A video game is supposed to be a simulation based on a set of rules; a set of rules that also obviously has limitations.
